Had a long day today, but a nice one-- even though I got no writing done (I'm going through withdrawl! LOL) and spent it with my family.

Went to see the (tiny but wonderful) Jim Henson exhibit at the American History Museum. Was very cool. Saw the Star Spangled Banner while we were there (since it's going off display for a long while as they totally revamp the whole musuem, it was nice to see it before it went away- it's looking good)

And then went to see William Wegman's exhibit at the American Art Museum. That was awesome. I love his dog photos, but I was really amused by some of his sketches and I loved what he did with the postcards (I have a huge postcard collection so I really wanted to see his show for that alone). But I loved the dog stuff the best, I think.

Then I ran errands (library, Blockbuster video, grocery store) and came home with half an hour to spare.

Then my family went out to Red Lobster together to celebrate my sister's birthday (she was ill on her birthday, so it's a belated celebration). We never go out to eat as a family, so that was nice. The last time we went out to Red Lobster together was about 15 years ago. I got free coupons from Red Lobster for doing cool environmental things around the house, and we went out to celebrate my sister becoming an American citizen. She didn't eat much, which was weird. We discovered later that night that she had chicken pox. Anyway, my sister'd never had lobster before so she ordered it and tried it tonight. She didn't like it as much as the crab legs, but she enjoyed the meal. I had the shrip & lobster pasta- I allow myself 2 seafood meals a year because sometimes I'm stuck somewhere where I have no other option and I want to enjoy eating out with the people I'm with. It was very VERY nummy but made me sick. I think I ate too much after a whole day of walking and sweating and I already had a bad headache. So I was about ready to die at the end and took a lot home in a doggy bag.

On the drive home (since it was on the way home) I had them drive by the place where I worked to show them the building. It's a cute place- I didn't have my keys so we didn't go in, but they thought it looked nice. It's just a house, basically, that the university bought and turned into offices. So our kitchen was originally a kitchen and my division's offices are actually where the garage used to be :-)

I came home and lay down for a little while, until I felt less like v-ing. Max immediately jumped up on the couch with me and curled up for an hour and a half. Was really nice snuggle time :-)

ANYWAY, I'm exhausted. According to my pedometer, I walked TEN TIMES more today than I do on normal days. My legs are kiiiiilling me from that. Also, ny hip popped out about two blocks into the 11 block walk from one museum to the other and I wasn't about to stop and try to pop it back into place, so I walked on it and screwed it up. It'll take a few days to get better now. Doh.

It was a long day of walking outside in the heat and standing on crowded metro trains (our subway) and walking around museums and driving and walking. I'm so tired. Going to sleep. I REALLY wanted to finish the first draft of Respect tonight and send it to ya'll to get betaed... but I don't have the mental ability. So I'll do that tomorrow. Tomorrow's my pajama day. Whoohoo tomorrow! :-) Not that I didn't have fun today... but it's a different kind of fun :-)
