Hey all. Sorry I haven't been posting or writing much lately. RL and books have been taking up way too much time.
Work has been crazy-busy now that we're only a few weeks from our annual conference.
Benji cat is doing better. We got him back on Wed and he wasn't a happy kitty. Thursday he started v-ing again around 11pm and Mom went out to get him meds from an all-night pharmacy. The meds apparently are working very well. So yay! As of last night, Benji was much peppier and he's been eating better. So we're taking it one day at a time. The vet STILL has no idea why he was getting sick, but we've been doing lots of blood tests and he's been back in his normal ranges- which aren't good, but they're not dangerously low.
The poor Capitals have had some great games but bad losses.*sigh* They're having this FANTASTIC women's night, where we get to meet with the Capitals' wives and in a Q&A, we get a tour of the facility- INCLUDING THE LOCKER ROOMS!, see on-ice demonstrations, meet a woman from my radio station, then have cocktails in the club, prizes, and tickets to a Caps game. I WANT TO GO SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DESPERATELY. But it's on one of the nights I'll be in Atlanta, Georgia for our conference. *cries* I'm going to e-mail them and say how much I'd love to go and hope they do it again. Because that sounds like HEAVEN to me but I only have one week a year where I have to go out of town for work and that's the one. *cries more* I really hope they do it again.
My ex-boyfriend who went to work for Microsoft sent me free of charge the new Microsoft Office software he's been working on for the last 3 years. How sweet is that? Even more incredible... and the sweetest, most romantic thing anyone has EVER done for me: in his code he used my birthday as one of his contants used as a hex! Okay, so to a geek that is an AMAZING gesture. I teared up when I read it. He's such a good guy.
This weekend's To Do List:

I bought 15 books at the library today (cost $1.50). One of them was 'The Outsiders' which I've always wanted to read. Squee! Last week I found a well-loved (practically falling apart) copy of one of the books in the Jedi Apprentice series. Double Squee!
I pre-ordered the next book in the Martin's hockey romance series. It looks like a good one *G*
I was supposed to go see Barack Obama speak on campus yesterday. But coworkers couldn't make it or decided not to make it. And I didn't have a car (it was in the shop) so I couldn't go on my own. I was very bummed. :-(
I dropped my car off at the shop Thursday night. I was told it needed 3 new belts and new front right and left axles. About $600 in cost, but it had to be done. And on my drive home, I heard the same squeaking sound the car had been making BEFORE I took it in... only worse. Crap! So I'm going to have to take the car back in again Sunday night for them to look at. ANd it will probably cost more (if not for work, at least in parts if they find something else is wrong). *sigh*
I'm still caught up on my Kakuro one-a-day calendar, so that's good :-)
Okay, that's all I can think of right now. Must go eat and drink and be merry.

PS: I just noticed you put some more stories on the challenge page. And how delightful, we have a Harry Potter fic at last!
On that note, did you notice Book 7 (HP and the Deathly Hallows) is coming out on July 21? I'm sure you did, but I just couldn't resist adding that. It's so exciting and yet so sad.
Re: The Outsiders
Date: 2007-02-05 06:25 am (UTC)As for The Outsiders, I rented the movie (Blockbuster online) a few months ago and looooooooved it. Definitely some fantastic h/c moments and lots of guy bonding... which is like heaven to me ;-) Not to mention some nummy eye candy with the older lads. *G* But I've been wanting to read the book and own a copy of it. So yay. I'm glad you recommend it!
Oh, and I agree about the challenge. Slow and steady so far, but I was thrilled to see an HP fic, too. I really must write a Sirius story... one of the bunnies just cries out "Sirius says this" to me. So I'm hoping I'll have time to write it. I do hope people write more, but I'm very excited about the ones we have so far!

Date: 2007-02-04 03:15 pm (UTC)I completely agree...'The Outsiders' remains one of my best loved books of all time.
I read it when I was 12 and was obsessed with it for years...
In fact I wrote my first fanfic about it :)
