News from TG!
1. I posted a Legolas/Gimli fic on the sneezefic list. Thank you for the bunny, Lady Korana. I haven't quite snapped out of writer's block yet but I'm on my way. Yayness.
2. I've been spending some time working on this Acefic I started in January. I've workshopped it twice at my writer's roundtable group and Tina was nice enough to beta it for me. It's in a good place right now :-) Yay for that, too.
3. My Tartan Day challenge at BookCrossing is going very well! More than 50 books released for it so far... of course, many of those were because of me, but that's not the point.
4. Speaking of the writer's roundtable... as of 9pm tonight, I am the new moderator/organizer of the group! So now it really is MY writer's roundtable group :-)
5. The Capitals won ANOTHER game! This means two games in a row! OMG we're on a roll! I'm going to the next/last game of the season on Saturday. I hope they can keep up their winning streak for it.
6. I found the following post-it note on the window of my car when I left the library tonight:

More of the yay! :-)
7. I actually have some more exciting news to post... but as it hasn't been publishd yet, I don't want to say anything yet. Okay, it's not a story or anything- so don't get TOO excited- it's something for work and it's really small.

Date: 2007-04-06 12:07 am (UTC)That bumper sticker says 'I'd rather be writing slash' and has two hearts that double as the male symbol. I bought it at cafe press (search for 'writing slash' and it should come up).

Date: 2007-04-06 12:23 am (UTC)LOL Really, thank you :-) The only problem with having so many bumper stickers is that if people behind me or passing seem to be looking at the stickers, I don't know which they're talking about/looking at.
The other small white one says 'I gotta have more cowbell' from my favorite SNL sketch :-) It didn't show up too well in the photo, though.
I've been thinking of replacing the Kerry sticker with a 'liberal for life' type sticker. I found a nice one on a website that reads 'I Voted My Moral Values: Pro-Environment Pro-Choice Pro-Peace Pro-Education'
Of course, there's always the 'Republicans for Voldemort' option :-)

Date: 2007-04-07 05:04 pm (UTC)Having said that, I want you to know I read the new L/G fic you posted, and it was cute as all heck! I'm intrigued by the cat's name. Does it have a particular meaning, or was it chosen just becuase it sounds elvish - which it really does. I was really struck by how realistic the cat's name sounded. I also had to giggle because if I get another cat, I'm planning on naming it Faramir, so I would be able to call to my Fara-kitty too. I love that Fara was a stray they took in. Who better to take in an unwanted cat than our unique twosome?
How very practical and dwarven of Gimli to see the cat more as a household tool than a pet, but I suppose the role of pretty, graceful, purring, pointy-eared companion was already taken. *G* I could also insert a joke here about the 'elvish way with all good beasts', but I shall refrain.
And the sickly Legolas cat snuggling part did not disappoint! Thank you for such lovely mental images you conjured up, with all the shivering and blankets, and cat kneading and attempting to suckle from the elf's nipple and *whew* is it getting hot in here? *giggles* And the phrase 'You're a dice kitty' was just cute as all heck! The whole last section with the falling asleep, and Gimli finding them was too adorable for words too. *sigh* Thanks so much for picking up this bunny!

Aw, thank you! I'm flattered, because I did spend some time trying to figure out a good name for her. I highly recommend anything with 'Fara' in it for a cat (I've always loved Faramir's name, as well). Anyway, to answer your question, it's the combination of two elvish words: Fara=hunter and Lavan=animal(there isn't anything in the dictionary for mouse/mice/rodent/rat). My grasp on elvish isn't so good so I don't know whether her name translates literally to "a hunter of animals" or "an animal who is a hunter" though both work just fine. It was supposed to be a misnomer (Gimli clearly states she is NOT a mouser) and I thought it PERFECT for two hunters/warriors to name their cat something tough like that.

heehee! Exactly! I guess she was a stray... though in my mind there's a little more to her backstory than that. Maybe she'll pop up in a future book and allow me to explain more. But she definitely was a cat no one else wanted. I like to think L&G are wise enough to know not to judge something by its cover, though. It's sad that she ended up letting them down on the mousing job, though.

I was glad that made sense. I don't see dwarves having a lot of pets running around with them down in their caves but any civilization that keeps animals like cows and horses has to have some solution to the problem of rodents.
but I suppose the role of pretty, graceful, purring, pointy-eared companion was already taken.
LMAO!! Exactly that!
I had hoped that the images of Legolas at the very end with Gimli would be obviously linked to those of the cat with Legolas in the previous scene (nuzzling against chests, purring, ears twitching, being petted, sort of kneading, etc.)
I could also insert a joke here about the 'elvish way with all good beasts', but I shall refrain.
Actually... that gives me an idea for another bit of story...
And the sickly Legolas cat snuggling part did not disappoint!
Awww, thank you kindly! I'm very glad you enjoyed it all. Nummy elf and cuddly kitty were fun to visualize for me, as well.
And the phrase 'You're a dice kitty' was just cute as all heck!
Thank you! He wasn't too stuffy at the beginning, but when I got to there that line just BEGGED for a stuffy nose. I hoped it wasn't too over the top, but I just loved the sound of it and couldn't resist. Poor snuffly Legolas *pets*
The whole last section with the falling asleep, and Gimli finding them was too adorable for words too.
heehee I'm so glad you liked it!
