I finally went to see the Pirates.

No spoilers in this post, but if your reply has spoilers, make sure you say so up front, matey!

General thoughts:
1. I loved it. Still like movie 1 best, but I loved movie 3.
2. If I didn't love the fandom so much, I'm not sure I would have loved it (I think to the normal person, there were parts that might have been a little too strange)
3. There are two parts that stump/confuse me
4. I adore Remus, and I even like his scars. But Will's scar? MADE ME WANT TO LICK HIM! *wibble*
5. Cold, wet, hurt, angsty- MAN I love Will Turner *G*
6. Fantastic job of keeping the humor and reviving all the jokes (DOG!) that needed to be in there. I laughed out loud quite a few times.
7. Wow. What a battle scene. Makes me want to skip hockey tonight and re-watch all of Hornblower. I won't, of course... but it's tempting.
8. Damn those credits seem so long when you have to pee. But it was worth the wait.
9. Interesting, exciting, entertaining. Obviously a few strange things... but in all, I thought it did an excellent job of sticking with the feel of the other two movies and was a great conclusion.
10. I loved it.

I soooo want to see the movie. But the kids are begging for Spiderman and Shrek first. The times are never early enough to go while their in school either :(

I saw Pirates a week ago Friday. I don't know what to think of it...I didn't like it very much plot-wise. There was a ton of things I would have cut out for time and plot progression. But that's just me. Most of my gripping comes from the fact that they killed off one of my favorite characters (Jack Davenport's Norrington) and barely showe another before he was killed off as well (Jonathan Pryce's Gov. Swann).

I don't really care for any of the main characters so that's another problem I have. I don't find Depp or Bloom attractive and I find Kiera Knightly annoying and way too skinny. I do love Geoffrey Rush though (he's one of my top three actors along with Bill Macy and James Woods) so it was nice to see him back. He's my favorite character that was actually in a decent amount of the movie. Keith Richard's cameo was all right and longer than I expected so that was amusing.

But yeah, this was by far my least favorite part out of the three (despite the fact it had far more Geoffrey Rush than the last part). Jerry Bruckheimer was on Carson Daly's show the other week promoting the movie. Carson asked him something about the possibility of another sequel (and yes, I stayed after the credits as well). Bruckheimer said that they left the door open on purpose at the end in case they ever want to do another but right now they have no plans (yeah, right). If the next movie they make is like the third I won't be anticipating it.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, though.

I don't think this is a spoiler... but it kind of refers to the ending.....

So, is there going to be a 4th? Especially with the ending / after credits bit?

Teeheehee... YES! Pirates! I agree with everything you said except 3 - there are a LOT of things that confuse me... we should watch it, oh, a dozen or so times again. ^^

11. Elizabeth Swann is at her coolest.
12. Captain Jack Sparrow will never amount to anything, but that's why we love him. XDDD

WARNING! SPOILERS AHOY!

*SPOILERS*

I don't think I'm capable of discussing this movie without spoilers, sorry! *G*

I wasn't sure what I thought of this movie after my first viewing...I was mostly just emotionally stunned/numb/in mourning for the first few days after, due to Will's fate. And that was with me spoiled ahead of time about what he ends up doing, and how he and Liz stand and all...I just didn't know how exactly he would end up there. I'm glad I warned my best friend ahead of time too, though she was so displeased with the movie that it is now 'dead' to her, which is totally killing me because I MUST discuss it and process it or I'll go crazy!

I saw it a second time by myself 4 days later and liked the movie MUCH more that time. I understood more and it didn't drag so much in the middle once I did understand. I still like the parts before they return to the normal world with Jack, and the end best though. And I cried the second time, when Will and Liz parted...my heart aches so badly whenever I think about them. I was really getting a ROTK vibe from this movie...where the end is bittersweet and even the soundtrack (which I bought 2 days before AWE came out) can move me to tears. I didn't cry the first time I saw ROTK either because there was just so much to look at that I was too overwhelmed to process it all. The second time I saw ROTK, I just sobbed through the last 10 minutes and this felt just like that. Obviously, POTC3 can't really compete with ROTK, story-wise, but kudos to it moving me that much nevertheless.

WILL. OMG, I am completely, utterly, head-over-heels in love with Will Turner. I can't stop thinking about him. I have dreamed about either Will or Orlando every night since I first saw the movie. I am officially able to say, without much regret, that he has passed Legolas on my sexiness list. Legolas is still my favorite fictional character, but he's more ethereal and beautiful whereas Will is just damn smoking HOT! Especially when wet and hurt and angsty! In fact, I owe so much to Disney for giving me in Will everything that I was craving and didn't get with Legolas: bare skin, open shirts, multiple injuries, serious angst, bondage in all 3 movies, and soaking wet more than half the time to boot! *swoon* I MUST find H/C fic...

The battle rocked. The wedding was just about the most awesome sequence ever, thanks to Barbossa, who just owned this movie. Jack who? Actually, Jack was ok, but I spent most of the time he was onscreen wanting the camera to go back to Will. *G*

Elizabeth was fine, though occasionally crossing the line over to Mary-Sue-ness. But she doesn't bother me, and she and Will are cute together.

I am probably running out of space on this post, so I'll continue in a new one.

Oh for the love of god! I made my good/bad list twice already and lost it both times! ARGH!!

I have to sleep soon or I won't be any good at work tonight, so I'll have to retype this again later. Sorry :(

One last try before I sleep:

MEGA-SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

The bad:
-Giant Calypso, wtf? I was expecting to see a nifty water spirit released and instead got an Amazon with an impossible to understand voice. And she was so enraged and everyone and all she does is create a whirlpool that doesn't hurt a single ship that doesn't choose to enter? Weak.
-Too long and sagged in the middle. The multiple rapid changes of loyalties were confusing but improved on repeat viewing.
-Norrington. Poor Norrington got the shaft, pure and simple. Sure, he ended up a hero, but not enough screen time, and no chance to be snarky with Jack. What a waste.
-Would have liked to see Gov. Swann's fate on screen.
-The Multiple/mini Jacks: Clever in Davy Jones' Locker....irritating and unnecessary back in the real world.
-Beckett's end. Looked nifty, but far less messy and nasty than he deserved.
-Poor kracken.
-The omission of important scenes regarding the nature of the Flying Dutchman's curse, how to break it, and the role of the faithfulness of the Captain's love in terms of the duration of service.

The good/awesome:
-Ragetti looking up Liz's skirt, then Pintel's view.
-Monkey Jack and Cotton's parrot working together
-The entire voyage to World's End. Especially sailing into the ice cave with the gorgeous music playing, and then sailing surrounded by stars.
-The crabs. Cute. Creative character design.
-Jack greeting his would-be rescuers and treating them like hallucinations.
-The entire Up Is Down sequence (Awesome track on the score too, btw!)
-WILL. Soaking wet and bound to yoke, kickass fighting, shivering and frozen, angsting about his/Liz's relationship issues, wet and sandy, comforting Liz, angsting again, plotting with Jack, wet again, charismatic and snarky at tea time with Beckett and Jones, proud of Liz and her rousing speech, wet yet again, then sooo sweet and pretty and confused as his life slips away, then BAM! Sexiest Pirate Captain EVER! *thud* Plus, I think he's really perfect for the job of ferrying souls...and ooh, the crossover potential!
-Pirate King Elizabeth Swann Turner. Guess that makes Will her Queen. *giggles*
-Barbossa. Geoffrey Rush owns these movies.
-Jack's machinations at the Brethren Court and the election
-Jack's mom
-The dog with the keys
-The return of Murtogg and Mulroy from POTC 1
-More refrences to POTC 1 - Leverage and half-pin barrel hinges. Yes, think like the whelp, Jack! *G*
-The ironic fate of the sword Will delivered to Gov. Swann in POTC 1
-Best Wedding Ever!
-Awesome final battle
-Highly amusing recurring male genitalia jokes
-Davy Jones and his bucket. Nice touch with the line of smaller buckets leading from the boat to the big tub!
-Bare knee/thigh cheek nuzzle...*guh*. Thanks Disney!
-Post-credits scene. Sweet, then oh so very hot and sexy! And multiple ways to interpret it.

In conclusion, I still think POTC 1 stands far and above the other two. That having been said, both 2 and 3 have their moments. I'll watch 2 when I want some bare Will back lashing or some Norrington or the sweet 3-way duel. Will is just so amazingly charismatic and so damned pretty in 3, that I'll watch it to satisfy my hormones, so long as I don't mind feeling terribly melancholy afterward.
