Grrr. Just me rambling and ranting...
Aug. 5th, 2007 01:47 pmEver have one of those days when everything pisses you off... yet you're pretty sure you're not even PMSing to justify it? LOL
FYI, I'm staying on LJ for now, but I'm going to back up my LJs and try to mirror them at InsaneJournal, if I can figure out how to do that. I really don't want to leave LJ, but all the banned/deleted journals and communities is really frustrating. And if there's a mass exodus, I want to be ready (or at least mentally prepared). I'm not as pissed off as most people- honestly, fanfic is illegal and chan/rape, noncon isn't my thing anyway. HOWEVER I'm totally sticking with the slashers. Because I don't want it to be a situation of: first they came for chan slash and I did not speak up for them, then they came for noncon/dubcon and I did not speak up for them, and then they came for kinky slash in general and by then there was no one left to speak for me.
Anyway, just wanted to say I'm staying here until I have better reason not to... but if anyone already has an InsaneJournal account, the names of my two main journals are the same there. I don't have invite codes so I haven't got a JournalFen account, and I've never really liked GreatestJournal so I don't have an account there yet. I'm just waiting to see what happens for now. I'll post again if I actually make a permanent move over there, but I really like some of the features here at LJ, so it'll take something big to send me away.
My parents' obsession with their ceiling fan is really annoying me. I'm not a fan of fans, to be honest. I like when they're up high or out of the way and cool the room off, I really do, but I DON'T like wind blowing directly on me, constantly. Call me crazy, but having something blowing right on my food when I'm trying to eat it is just stupid- why would you want your hot food to get cold faster? Why would you want it to go cold before you had a chance to eat it? Makes no sense to me. Why would you want something that blows your newspaper pages and puzzles across the room? And it would be one thing if it were up high, but it's right over the table and the ceiling is low so there's only about 3-4 feet between tabletop and fan. My parents can't be in the room without turning it on. Possibly because they don't really believe in air conditioning even though we have it. Plus, each one sets it to a different setting and then leaves it like that, so I have absolutely no idea how many pulls to give it to make it turn off. I just have to stand there like an idiot tugging on the cord over and over again until it starts to slow down. I swear the fan has it in for me! I'll pull it three times and it will speed up, and then I'll pull it another three and it stops- completely illogical. I think it knows I hate it. Anyway, even though they know I don't like it blowing on me while I'm eating, they insist on turning it on- sometimes sitting and watching me and waiting until I swallow my last bite then immediately turning it on afterwards. Sometimes, after I turn off the fan, they pick up the nearest paper and start quickly fanning themselves like they can't stand to go three seconds without wind blowing on them. Mom will sigh and get a wet paper towel and dramatically walk around with it stuck to her forehead. WTF? Are we children now? I mean, seriously. It's not THAT warm, even if the thermostat is set to 77 or whatever. But I just can't take the drama any more. So from now on, I'm just going to avoid eating in the family room altogether. If only I had a freezer and a large sink to do dishes in down here. Then I wouldn't ever have to go upstairs for any reason (I already have a fridge and a microwave).
It gave me a good reason to finally put together the little side table I bought at Ikea. I messed up the instructions slightly, but I don't think it made a difference. It looks nice, especially for the first thing I ever put together all by myself. Oh wait... no, I put my fouton together... but that was from Walmart so never mind.
Anyhoo, and then my family goes and cancels the outing to see Harry Potter 5 in IMAX. Unfortuntely there's nowhere around here showing it in IMAX 3D but I'd love to see it in IMAX anyway. It's about a 30-40 minute drive away, but it is playing at the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum in Dulles theaters. I've been bugging them since it came out- we wanted to do it as a family. But everyone keeps forgetting about it. I brought it up again on Friday, and Sat and today- not going to happen this weekend. Not that I'm the least bit surprised. I didn't even get my hopes up. In fact, I'm watching something to bid on at eBay knowing I'd be here to watch it, not at the movies. I learned a while ago to stop relying on people to make myself happy. When they're there and we're having a good time and I'm happy, it's fantastic. But if I depend on them for that, chances are I'll be disappointed. Easier just not to expect anything out of anyone. And then if something turns out plesantly it's like a happy bonus, and if it doesn't, I won't be surprised. *sigh* I think I'm too young to be so cynical :-) And I think I need a boyfriend.
OH! Speaking of which (yes, it does make sense in my mind= boyfriend->geek dating->geeks naming children) on the BookCrossing forum there was a discussion about naming children after literary characters and/or authors. I was astounded at how many wonderful freaks there were out there doing that. My absolute favorite was a couple who named their son "Logan Elessar" (X-Men AND Lord of the Rings). The father's name is James Kirk (Star Trek) and mother's name is Carrie (named after Carrie Fisher in Star Wars) because they both came from sci-fi/geeky households. How frickin cool is that family? Hey, if geeks like those can find each other, I've got to be able to! heehee I promise I won't be naming any kids after the ones in the HP Epilogue, though ;-)
Did I ever mention that the Mommy robin is back and sitting on her eggs again? This makes three broods this spring. So much fun to watch nature happening right outside my window!
There was blood on my blanket last night. Since Max is the only one who sleeps on that part of the bed, I'm certain it was his, but I checked him all over and can't figure out where it came from. I'm washing sheets/blankets now so hopefully it will come out. It was only maybe 5-6 drops, and maybe it was just a fight/play with another cat... but I'm a worried mommy. He seems perfectly fine right now.
I think I'm going to try to clear out another shelf of my video cabinet. I really want to put my Legos there. I cleared off one shelf by un-organizing the videos and putting them on the bottom three shelves which are now packed full of hundreds of video tapes. But I'd love to clear off another. Maybe I can move them back to my Yaffa block shelves which are almost empty... Anyway, I bought all these little storage containers and sorted the Lego bricks out by color and type. It looks AWESOME and it freed up a whole shelf on my bookcase to put books on! (Much needed) However, with all my Harry Potter Legos on display, there won't be room enough for them when I break them down and package them up again. Especially if I keep buying Legos (I have another two sets coming in the mail any day now, and a few more I'm bidding on over at eBay. heehee) ANd I'm thoroughly pissed off that they're not having a convention in my area this year- for the first time in, like, 7 or 8 years! I was really looking forward to actually building something for it. Grrr.

Date: 2007-08-05 06:12 pm (UTC)Love that Elessar though, that's awesome. And James Kirk just wins!
Sorry about your not getting to see HP on IMAX. Some days I wish I could just drive by your state and sweep you off to do fun stuff...
