News from my neck of the woods
Apr. 27th, 2008 10:41 pmMy Friday- Watched hockey. Tried to watch Assassination of Jessie James but the DVD wouldn't play after 1:09:23. Grrr. Tried to watch Doctor Who movie but lost my internet connection. Crashed pretty early.
My Saturday- Volunteered at library- got to do the pick list for the first time. Sooo much fun! Went to the movies and saw Deception. HOLY COW! All it takes me to regain my faith in on-screen het is a good Ewan McGregor movie. *EG* Hugh McGregor and Ewan Jackman *wink* were fantastic. I'm buying this as soon as it's out on DVD. I loved the pacing, I loved the twists (predictable and kind of insultingly revealed at times, but I didn't care because all the good absolutely overshadowed the bad), I loved the acting, I loved the cinematography, I loved the movie! There was a HUGE thunderstorm in the afternoon (was driving home from the movies and saw lightning ahead but it wasn't raining at the time & the sky overhead was blue- very neat). I watched 4 hours of Robin Hood and finished releasing & packing books.
My Sunday- Woke up way too early, loaded my little car, and drove to Maryland to the Kensington Day of the Book Festival. I brought a dolly, tarps, and 374 books to give away. The event went well and we reached our goal of giving away 1000 books with 5 minutes left in the festival! It almost rained once, but the storm passed before we had even finished pulling the books under the tent. Thank goodness! Got to meet a BookCrosser from New Zealand and hang out with another 8 or 9 BookCrossers- among us we had 2300+ books to give away (many walked away without making a mark on the board with our goal to 1000) and I came home with only 5. Sooooo much free space in my room now! I'm all ready for the book sales at the end of this week. Bwahaha! Went to Panera after the festival and had dinner with the BookCrossers. Such a nice bunch.
GODS I hope we win the 2010 convention bid! Voting ending early this morning so now it's just a waiting game.
My feet hurt sooo much from walking & carrying boxes of books all day. Going to take a hot shower & wash hair now. Yep. And put together a package for my BookCrossing birthday buddy. Hope it arrives before May 8 via media mail. Of course, I haven't received mine from her yet so... I'm not too worried if it gets there a tad late. And it was worth waiting because I picked up two books for her today at the festival.
Anyway, I'm going to shower and then work on a fic I want to finish before April ends. Then I'm going to CRASH and sleep for a week. Or... until tomorrow morning :-) And I want everyone to go watch Desperation. Because it's all sorts of nummy!

Date: 2008-04-29 01:29 am (UTC)The new Robin Hood series season 2 premiered on Saturday (after months of hype). I kinda missed about half of season 1 but I saw the key episodes and they did a mini marathon on Saturday leading up to the first episode of season 2.

Date: 2008-04-29 01:49 am (UTC)And I saw the premeire of seasn 2 on saturday, and it was amazing despite the fact that I already know what happens this season. Robin got significantly less hot (in my opinion) since last season, which is sad. Allen got hotter, which is happy.

Date: 2008-04-29 02:23 am (UTC)Well, don't tell me what happens in season 2! LOL I don't like being spoiled. And I never really found Robin all that hot to begin with (I guess the Robin from my childhood will always win out)... and I'm pissed at Allen at the moment for what he agreed to in the last episode. Grrrr.

Date: 2008-04-29 07:54 pm (UTC)I like some movies with tiny showings, like one I saw last month with me and my two friends. That was fun.

Date: 2008-04-29 02:04 am (UTC)Mine was pretty much all spent on the lj group torch_wood. Reading past episode reviews then gave way to reading all the yummy reports coming out of the first official UK Torchwood convention, The Rift, which was Saturday. Gareth David-Lloyd, Eve Myles, Kai Owen, and James Marsters were there, and apparently the discussions that went on were even naughtier than the show tends to be! God, I love this fandom!
Here's a video clip showing the best quote of the day, from Gareth, naturally.

Gods I hope there's a third season. I hope there's a third season. I hope there's a third season...
