Faerie Tale Theatre
Apr. 29th, 2008 09:44 pmFaerie Tale Theatre was one of my very favorite shows as a child. It was on PBS and we didn't have cable when I was growing up. It was one of the few shows my whole family gathered around the tv for and enjoyed together. I remember once my dad called into the station during pledge week to pledge $20 (we were members of another PBS station, but that one didn't show Faerie Tale Theatre). They made fun of his lowsy little $20 and asked him how much he spent on cable each month. Wrong question. They kindly took our $20 after that.
ANYWAY, for the last year or so I've been thinking on and off about one of the episodes in particular- the one about the Dancing Princesses. I remember little things about it like the fact that a guy wore a cloak and he snuck on board the boat to discover how the Princesses went dancing each night, for example. But most of it was fuzzy for me. For some reason, I really wanted to see it.
Since Season 3 of Doctor Who is set to "very long wait" in the Blockbuster Online system, I moved a bunch of other movies up a bit in the queue. I have about 20 of the Faerie Tale Theater episodes on my queue but I selected only the Dancing Princesses episode to jump up to the top spots because I really wanted to see it especially. It was strange that that episode above all others stood out in my mind. I can't really remember so many details about the other episodes.
Aaaaaaaaaaand after watching it tonight, I think I know why. The soldier who's sneaking around under an invisibility cloak, tailing the princesses, falls into the water and catches- as they put it- a dreadful cold. The sneezes (about ten) are fantastic, and there's even an instance where he's trying to speak as a sneeze is building. And he nearly sneezes during a kiss to one of the girls- she gets a handkerchief to his face and kisses him as he rubs his nose. Soooo nummy. How could I have forgotten that part?! LOL!
*goes to watch it again* *sighs happily*
Now I have to figure out whether to buy that episode on its own or just break down and spend the $150 on the whole dang boxed set. Considering the $2300 I spent today at the dentist, the $10 purchase looks a bit more in my price range, but I really love the whole series and would I regret it if I end up buying the set and then winding up with spending the extra money on the repeat DVD? Argh! Choices, choices...
But, seriously, if you get a chance, you've got to buy/rent it. Totally adorable. *goes weak*
Think I might just watch it once more...

Let me know if you ever get tired of these, because otherwise I could keep this up a long time. I've read so very much and still feel like I've barely scratched the surface of how much TW material is out there.
Edited to add both parts.
