You're a star, Kate! I definitely remembered gold-pressed latinum as the currency, but wasn't sure if there were others or how that was used. I see in that article that credits are also used. Hmmm.

Just got home from work. Sorry I didn't see this question sooner!

On DS9, it depends on who's buying what and where. I'm fairly sure that the senior officers have running bar tabs and Quark just charges food/drink/holosuite access to their bill. That being said, I'm sure he wouldn't turn down actual slips, strips, or bars of gold-pressed latinum. Oh, and just found a reference online to an ep where Worf owed Quark and ended up giving his thumb print on some sort of tricorder/PADD-like device.
There are also documented instances of Cardassians using thumb scans when exhanging cargo and merchandise, as in 'The Circle' trilogy of eps.

So, I think you're safe to go with a thumb print on some sort of data pad.

It's okay. I rearranged my days (switched Wolf's rain with DS9) so it's just fine now.

In my case, I'm trying to figure out how Remus would pay for something. If each person had his own datapad then the Doctor's sonic screwdriver would easily work. But a thumbprint's a bit harder to deal with (even if it is safer canon) since he wouldn't technically be registered on the station when arriving since he didn't dock there and is there illegally. Hmmm. Maybe it's time to let magic fix that little problemo. Unless there's a gold-pressed latinum-dispensing ATM somewhere the Doctor can rig. And if there isn't one, man that sounds like a fun machine to have around- I should make one exist. LOL

Thanks so much for the details & specifics about the staff's tabs. Hmm. Maybe I'll rewrite it to have Julian treat him.

WHY do I keep picking fandoms I've never written in before? This LMOM project is all kinds of crazy-making.

Here's another thought:

How about a money-changing Kiosk? With all those species coming in and out of the station, it would seem to make sense that there should be a currency exchange location somewhere (probably Ferengi-Run). Or some form of ATM machine. I have no idea how canon this is, but I've seen such machines referenced before. The Doctor could easily work some sonic screwdriver magic there.
