Can't Stop the Serenity
Jun. 21st, 2008 02:07 amWow. That was fantastic! I went to see Serenity tonight (I'm going again on Saturday) and it was great to see in theaters, especially knowing that it was for a good cause (Equality Now). I bought a t-shirt and two raffle tickets (though I think they messed up and handed me tickets but forgot to tear off the other half and put them in for the drawing- LOL). But I forgot my camera. We ended up buying a crappy Digital camera at Rite Aid ($25). I don't know if any of the pictures turned out... Guess we'll see. There was no flash on it.
They showed Firefly episode Out of Gas, followed by some of Ariel in the Grill before the movie. I wanted to get food then but our waiter sucked. Took us 40 minutes to get menus, and then he never returned! So I ate a whole pizza during the movie (which started at 10).
It was a really nice group. There were a few comments thrown out at the screen (some funny-- "Serenity Now!"-- and others sad-- "Whedon you Bastard!") but generally the fans were all pretty quiet... though with clapping and laughing at all the best parts (mostly Jayne lines and River actions... and a few Kaylee lines, too). There were some people in costume- a Jayne, two Kayless, a Simon, a Mal, a YoSafBrig, and a great Badger- whose bowler hat was signed by the actor himself and might actually have been the original prop from the show- we weren't sure exactly what he said and I ducked into the bathroom after we took his picture, so I didn't hear anything apart from seeing the autograph.
But at any rate, it was great hanging with friends and geeking out- and spending WAY too much money ($2 on drinks, $25 on camera & batteries for same, $15 for food & gas money, $7 on ticket, $4 on raffle, $20 on shirt= shit! $73! Can that be right?). Ah well. For a good cause and all. And maybe I can re-use the small camera for BookCrossing instead of buying a new cell phone with camera. Hmmm. There's a thought!
At any rate, it was a nice night. And I got to meet the fearless leader of my local browncoat chapter. Which might help me delurk and start going to meetups- assuming one falls on a day during which I don't already have a BookCrossing meetup or library volunteering (why Thursday night, people?)
Why don't I have any Firefly icons? I need. And more Torchwood & Who icons. Damn. I need more icons! Stupid icons get me addicted to paid time on LJ. *sigh*
