Gift help!

So my coworker is having a bridal shower. I've never been to a bridal shower. But I've been invited and I'm going. Problem is, I'm supposed to get them something for their home that has to do with 1:00 pm. It's a theme thing (everyone brings gifts that have to do with different times of day). Problem is, I have no idea what to get that has to do with 1pm! That's... right after lunch. Not nap time. Not tea time. Not even lunch time. But after lunch. What do people do after lunch in their homes? I have no clue. But I want my present to be neat and clever.

Any ideas? C'mon flist! I trust you to be awesome and helpful! :-)

Soap Opera?

The only thing I can think of is soap operas -- don't they usually start after the noon news? How about a bunch of small boutique/guest bathroom soaps, and a light comic opera on DVD? (Gilbert and Sullivan *anything* would fit the bill, or Candide.)

You are officially the goddess of clever! I really like that idea. I know she likes Phantom of the Opera, too. I'm sort of leaning towards dessert but this idea is WAY too clever not to consider. Thank you!!!!!!!!!

PS- for some reason, I never got your last story posted on the archive in e-mail, so I totally missed it until, um, just about now. The one with Corey and the race. I friggin loved it! Will post feedback when I'm not exhausted. But I loved it!!!

Maybe something to do with dessert? Fancy ice cream sundae glasses and hot fudge, etc. - Sorry it's not much, but all I have :)

One of my BookCrossing friends suggested the same thing. I wasn't sure people are dessert after lunch but if two people suggest it, I think it's valid enough to consider!

The couple is vegan but I found an awesome vegan ice cream recipe book. I could get some nice glasses/sorbet dishes and the book. I'll have to ask her bridesmaid who's also a coworker if they've already got ice cream dishes of some sort.

When I used to work at a daycare and babysat more often after lunch would be play time on the playground or organized sports time. After that the kids would go back to their classrooms and have silent reading for a while. Since its a baby shower maybe you could give them baby books or little play toys? Maybe that's too cliche. I don't know.

Whenever I need a baby present I look to my mom who has knitted a million baby blankets over they years and has a huge stockpile to choose from.

Well, it's a bridal shower, not a baby shower. (I TOTALLY don't understand the point of a bridal shower. They got gifts at their engagement party, then gifts at the bridal shower, then gifts at the bachelorette party, then gifts at the wedding- is this a scam or what?!) But yesterday I found out one of my coworkers is pregnant, so it looks like a baby shower will also be in my future pretty soon. So I'll definitely keep all that in mind. Thanks muchly!

Oh, a bridal shower, I guess I read your post too fast. Anyway, I don't really have ideas for that, either. But perhaps a nice picnic set? People go to the park and picnics in the early afternoon, right?

I think they want something related less to time in general and more to the specific time of day. But who doesn't need a cool clock? I'll keep my eyes open just in case. Thanks! :-)
