Torchwood: Children of Earth Commercials
Jul. 13th, 2009 09:48 pmI'm watching How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? on BBCA right now and they keep showing long commercials/promos for the new Torchwood series. How come everything they say in the commercials has NO resemblance to the series I just watched? Makes me even *more* depressed about series 3. I wish I could see the series they're promoing and not the one that it actually turned out to be. *is sad*
Not to say I hated it; I didn't hate it. But it wasn't what I wanted; not by a long shot. And I'm still not over the ending.
But these commercials are, like, rubbing it in my face. This is the greatest Torchwood's ever been? REALLY? Maybe the version that will be shown in the US will be full of lollypops and rainbows? Maybe there's been some awesome editing and they cut out all the horrible moments to put commercials in their place? LOL
And people are saying that if we don't watch and give it ratings, there won't be a Series 4. I seriously don't understand how they could possibly do a Series 4 after that. Not sure I'd want them to. Unless it's a prequel, yeah?

I like your idea of BBC America editing cutting out the bad parts. The full version will only be shown on the first airing, over 75 minutes plus a 15 minute TW confidential. Each subsequent repeat will have the usual hour long time slot, so I am curious to see what gets cut and what doesn't. I have a sickening feeling they'll keep all the plot and cut every shred of amusing moments or character development. (And maybe some aerial shots of London and Cardiff, and some children being taken...plenty to choose from.)
To be honest, I'm not sure I want to give them good ratings now. On the other hand, there's no chance of it getting better or any happy endings if they leave it here. My compromise: I'm going to Tivo every day but day 5 and let them guess why I didn't bother with the last day.

Perfect solution. Emotionally, I'm not sure I could go through that again so soon with commercial breaks and all that as well. Not to mention the content... gah... I don't think I could support it either... but I do want more Torchwood. It's a hard situation. But my DVR is indeed set to tape every new Torchwood out there.
I know exactly what you mean. Man, I'm so pissed every time I see RTD's smug face saying 'Watch it. It's brilliant!'

ROTFL Yes!!!! That's it precisely!!! THANK you!

That's a pretty safe bet, given their cuts in the past. At least with the cuts I could pretend that they forgot about the beans and kicked Rhys out, right?

The part where he comes in with coffee, clothes, and the coat is very possibly my favorite scene in the entire series 3. Well, that and the heavy machinery in day 2! And the cute scene in the hospital at the beginning of day 1. It stings a little knowing what is coming, but he was freakin' awesome and I don't want to forget those parts.

It's exactly what I needed to feel better. YES! I knew these would start showing up soon. Post Children of Earth, changes not one single on screen canon detail, yet it has a happy ending and is delightfully timey wimey. Can this be worked into the next special or series, please?
