tarotgalI asked people to post topics/questions for me and one wonderful person asked me about my Strokes series, a subject I could ramble on about forever- thanks for asking!
ummmmm... talk to me about Strokes! what's happening with them lately?
are Ace and Julia really gonna start dating?
Let's start there with Ace & Julia, shall we? They haven't yet started dating in anything that I've written, but in my head, yeah, they're totally an item. But I haven't discovered how it's going to happen yet (I'm totally open to suggestions). They already know each other a little bit through the boys but they don't have a lot of regular or even occasional interaction as Ace doesn't frequent Strokes and Julia hasn't been going out/putting herself on the market lately. It's a matter of finding the right moment to bring out their chemistry (or see for myself if they even have chemistry). Julia has had so many unhealthy relationships lately; I want to give her a good one. And I totally think Julia is Ace's type physically (she's damn gorgeous, great sense of humor, and fiercely kind-- if I weren't straight, she would be my type, too!). Only time will tell if it'll be more than just a little dating, but I want to give them a chance. Incidentally, there's this scene with Julia driving in the rain that I've been dying to write for a year or two now, but I haven't figured out what it's part of (if it's part of anything at all).
As for the rest... there are two unpublished but finished stories with Sin (from a few years ago). I still have a few short short pieces leading up to that to write before I can reveal the first one (more dramatic that way). My latest idea with Sin is to clean up some of the stories I've written about him so far, finish off "Tryouts" with him, and then self publish a volume entitled Seven Strokes of Sin. I was thinking it could be a series. You know, # Strokes of Sweetie, # Strokes of Olly, etc. I don't expect to make money or anything, I basically want to do it for myself so I have a physical something in my hand. Of course, if anyone else wanted a copy, they'd be able to buy it as well, but I'm not expecting anyone to. And I'm still one half of a story and some editing away from the reality.
I think the only stories I've worked on during the past few months are two stories with Olly. Olly has somehow stumbled upon yet ANOTHER job to keep him busy and occupied and unable to hold down a social life: he has become a library volunteer. I've started the story where he becomes one (I'm just one retelling of The Three Billy Goats Gruff away from finishing that one) and I've written (finished) another short story that features him doing his job in the library. But I'm not going to say what exactly he's doing at the library yet (it's not what I do as a volunteer at the library). I haven't written a third story yet... but I kind of feel the job could lead to really good things for the boy, though. *wink*
The others... I haven't done much with recently. Sweetie & Jamie are thinking about getting married but don't want to do it until marriage is legal in Maryland (they might settle for Washington D.C. if it gets approved there... but I sort of want them to hold out until they can have a wedding at the house or at the club). Washington D.C. lost the recent bid to host the Gay Games, and Jamie's bummed about that. It would have been really convenient and fun (Cleveland? Really?). Also, I still have plans to write that Jamie novel that involves how Sweetie & Jamie met. Slow progress on that project though. It might have been my NaNoWriMo 2009 but my faerie stories took it this year. So I've already got it reserved for 2010 and I brought the bulletin board with all the notes about it to show & tell at one Writers' Roundtable group.
Um... Nik is just being Nik. Pit-- OH! Right, Pit! I've worked on a story with Pit recently-- I almost forgot! Someone spotted Pit on the Metro (our local subway system) the other day and totally crushed on him. He's having trouble accepting it but, don't worry, Nik and Sweetie won't let it go that easily. Auntie Al... he's hanging in there... for now. I'm still having trouble getting the details of his backstory straight, which is really frustrating me (if anyone wants to help me with the logic that's been making my head hurt for a few years, e-mail me at tarotgal@kintailscape.com). And there are some troubled times behind & in front of him. But in the present, he is fine and helping hold down the fort.
