Urgent Topic!
Nov. 19th, 2009 06:52 pmThere was an urgent topic I wanted to post about while I was at work! And now I've forgotten completely about what it was. ARGH! Hate that.
At any rate, I had a good day today. I woke up an hour early on purpose, so I ended up getting to see the last 4 heartbreaking moments of Angel: the series. Man I love that ending. The dragon. And "Charlie boy." And the great blue god fieeling grief.
Which means, the 8am episode of Angel was the first episode! And what happens at the beginning of the first episode? (Besides Angel making a fool of himself while drunk and then kicking some vamp arse afterwards, that is?) That's right, Doyle's entrance! What better way is there to wake up in the morning than to Doyle sneezing? *EG*
The reason I woke up early was so I could get to campus. They were giving out free flu shots to faculty, staff, and students. I'm staff! It started at 9 so I got to campus around 8:05 and then proceeded to walk in the absolute WRONG direction on campus. Even with a map in my hand, I got totally turned around for 10 minutes (I'm on campus once a year, if that, and usually that's just to the building adjacent to the parking garage; this was the opposite side of campus and a different garage). Anyway, I finally found the building and got there at 8:20. I wrote NaNoWriMo novel for 25 minutes and then they started letting us in to fill out the paperwork early. I filled it in, got in a second line. Then they checked our IDs and paperwork and sent us to a third line. I got my shot and had to sit there for 15 minutes to make sure there were no side effects. I got my shot at 9:05 (was supposed to open at 9am, mind) so it was all over and I was on my way to work by 9:20. I was 36th in line. A coworker was something like 5 or 6. And another coworker was 10 behind me. When I left, there were about 200+ people in a line that snaked around the third floor, down the stairs to the second floor, around the second floor, down the stairs to the first floor, and arround the lobby on the first floor. Sheesh! They said it was about a 2 hour wait from there. So I'm glad I got there early! I got to sit down and write while waiting for the first 25 minutes and then it was just another 20 while I filled out paperwork and went from one side of the ballroom to the other. Quick as could be!
SF Obs time: Also kind of nice was that the guy right in front of me sneezed at one point while we were in line *blush* Seriously adorable lad, too. I know, I know. It's cold and flu season, but I'm so conflicted and hypocritical this time of year! I don't mind if the cute ones have colds. *I* just don't want to be the one who's sick! LOL Same thing happened last week at a coffee shop write in. The guy one table over where half my crew was sitting was sneezing a few times every half an hour or so on average. Damn sexy sneezes, too. Almost always in pairs so you got that little burst of anticipation going as you waited for the second one each time. He was clearly sick, poor thing. Nothing bad- no coughing or anything like that, just some sniffling besides the sneezes. Anyway, it's totally making being there an enjoyable experience for me, and then my co-writers started complaining and he got the hint and left. *sigh* Okay, okay. So, yeah, I absolutely wouldn't have wanted him to get them sick. And one of my co-writer has a wife who has cancer and is on chemo right now so it would be absolutely HORRIBLE if he were to get sick. I wouldn't wish that on anybody. But, yeah. I can't deny for that hour and a half it was lovely. The lovely kind of wrong, right? ;-) Man I love cold season...
Anyway, now I'm protected from the regular flu and H1N1! Whoohoo! Considering, there have been 3 confirmed cases in my circle of friends already this year, I feel very lucky to have not contracted it already. And I'm glad to have the little extra protection now.
And what's even better is that I got in to work only about 40 minutes late, prepared to stay late today to make up for the time, and our director said that we didn't have to take leave for the time it took to get the flu shot today! Yay! So I got to leave at my normal time. I could have done what my coworkers did and go during the day and I wouldn't have had to get up super early. But then I would have had a 2 hour wait standing up the whole time and not getting work done. I 'm glad I got there while I could. Plus, they said they only had 2,000 doses so early was definitely better to be sure I got one!

Date: 2009-11-20 08:42 am (UTC)They offered me my choice of the nasal version or the shot. I told them to give me whichever they wanted to or had more of. Since I don't live with any children, am not pregnant, and don't have any underlying medical conditions, I ended up getting the live inactived nasal vaccine vs. the killed virus shot. It was definitely interesting, knowing I was having a flu virus squirted up my nose. Luckily, no signs of any problems from the vaccine. :)
