Best week ever? Possibly!
Jun. 23rd, 2010 11:06 pmThis might just be the best week ever. Or, at least, until I get to Hogemeade next month :-)
Tonight several of my boys (Alex & Jose) won awards at the NHL awards show. I barely recognized the show; there were musicians and actors on there that I'd actually heard of!
Tomorrow I get to see my current favorite author read in person! How often do you get the chance to meet your favorite author? Seriously, I am SO freakin excited! I missed seeing John Green by 2 days last year in Boston, but that was before I read any of his books and realized how in love I am with his writing and characters. He's not on the east coast often, so I'm taking advantage and taking an hour off of work to get into Washington DC in time to find parking and a good seat. SQUEE! So excited so excited so excited. Now if I can just manage to not make a fool of myself... I'm no good at meeting famous people. I come off a but simpering and fangirly. And I WISH I had some gift for him, but I couldn't come up with anything at the last minute. And he just got a plush angler fish. Dude, how do you top that?
Friday is the start of Mario Marathon 3! That's when a bunch of nice guys (several of whom are my friends on Twitter now, so it's kind of like me actually getting to see them again after a year) get together and play different Mario Brothers games for 4 or 5 days straight (they keep playing as the donations roll in). They take shifts playing so they can sleep, but they literally play nonstop for the whole time. You can check on them at 4am and someone will be up playing. It's so much fun-prizes, the Mario Dance (remember that from the Super Mario Brothers cartoon show?), LEGO, props, and so much more. And, oh, it's for the Child's Play charity! Seriously awesome. Check it out!
Saturday is the annual Can't Stop the Serenity charity event and a bunch of friends will be going with me-several of whom have never seen Serenity! So I'm going to have to be careful when I hold my hands over my face during the Leaf on the Wind scene (that gets me EVERY time). They'll also be doing a screening of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along-Blog, which they did last year, and that was fun to sing along with (even though I don't sing). And there will be contests and prizes and raffles and lots of shiny swag and fandom goodness and it's all to benefit charity! I think that's what Heaven is like.
Sunday is Do Nothing But Read Day. I have already started making lists of all the things I get to read that day. Of course, I'll have the Mario Marathon on at the same time across the room and then at 2pm there's a Harry Potter Alliance conference call I need to listen in on because the actress who plays Luna in the movies will be on and she hasn't joined in on a call in more than a year (I think she's been a bit busy, you know, MAKING MOVIES). But I'm seriously excited about staying in my PJs all day and reading lots of good things I've been wanting to finish/start/make a dent in.
And every day this week after work I've been working very hard on my creations for the next LEGO BrickFair convention. I'm doing pretty well, actually. I finished the Room of Requirement tonight so I have 2 totally done, 1 that is about 95% done, and 1 more planned. Actually, if time permits, there are another 4 or 5 I want to try, but if I can get these 4 done, that'll be a respectable showing.
And I've been working on my NCIS fic. I'm on part 13 now so I'm getting close to being done. I have much of part 14 already written in a notebook (thanks to a long Metro ride a few weeks back) so that should go smoothly. I just need a good ending now. I hope everyone is enjoying the parts of the story I've posted thus far :-)
Seriously, this week is SO of the awesome. I can't even stand how awesome it is. I'm such a happy fangirl.

Date: 2010-06-25 03:15 am (UTC)I think earreading is a perfectly valid option for someone traveling on Do Nothing But Read Day! The point is to read and enjoy, after all, not Read And Get Into a Car Accident Day :-)
