More good news and bad news
Oct. 21st, 2010 12:35 amGood news: I had a breakthrough on my Strokes series. I made some visual aids (cards for each character and printed out the ages chart I made ages ago, pun intended). Took me a long discussion with my mother, but with her help (I needed someone older than I was, who remembered the 70s) I FINALLY worked out Auntie Al's family situation. This has been bugging me for... what, 5 years now? 4? 6? It's seriously been driving me crazy that I couldn't get it to work out the way I wanted. Fred, Carol, and Steven just were NOT cooperating and I suspected that was because I had killed them all off before the Strokes series ever started and they weren't happy about that (I can't blame them). But I've got it worked out in a way that makes me happy. And it's good, too. Except it made my mother sad. When you're only talking about 4 characters and 3 have "Dead" written on their cards... yeah, it's sad. "Al's all alone!" Awwww. I had to explain he's all right now and certainly not alone (with, what, 7 others living in the house?). But, anyway, I've finally got his family straight. Yay!!!! You can't possibly imagine how happy and relieved I am! :-)
Bad news: New giant bump on back of my head that I am told looks nothing like a bug bite this time and also hurts when touched (actually, it feels like one but I'm told it's really two). Either way, oh great. So I'm going to call first things tomorrow morning for a doctor's appointment. And I so rarely go to the doctor. Kinda worried. I mean, not totally worried because if it is something I only JUST found it so it didn't have time to get really bad. But, damn, I'm just tired of little things being wrong with me, because if I went to the doc every time there was something little wrong, I would seriously live at the doctor's. *sigh*

Date: 2010-10-21 12:00 pm (UTC)Congrats on the breakthrough. I have a question, though: is it Strokes or Stokes? I could have sworn you said Stokes on a formspring question (though of course it's blocked at work so I can't actually check). And are you planning on working more on the series during NaNo?

Date: 2010-10-21 12:15 pm (UTC)As for Strokes vs. Stokes, it's both. Strokes is what I call the series as a whole. Strokes is also the name of the nightclub that several of the characters own together and that serves as one of the main settings during the series. Stokes, however, is the name of the (fictional) town in Maryland in which they live. So I use both, just depending upon what I'm talking about.
And, yes, there are a few Strokes stories I'm planning on working on during NaNo. There's also a short story idea I've had that's a spinoff of last year's NaNoNovel, starring my Markeroon character. And there are various fanfiction pieces I want to work on as well.
