Return of the King
Jun. 29th, 2011 12:17 amJust got home from seeing Return of the King in theaters. I saw Fellowship 2 weeks ago with a bunch of friends; had a lot of fun. I couldn't go to Two Towers last week, but I went alone to Return of the King tonight. The guy sitting next to me (2 packed theaters) had never seen the extended edition before and kept jumping or commenting to his friends softly (not annoyingly) about the added scenes. It was really neat, like seeing it for the first time. The only two bad parts:
1- The scene where Legolas & Gimli kiss and fondle each other was left out! Bah! And they said it was the authentic, extended version. Liars!
2- I sat down around 6:10. I stood up at 11:20 and almost fell. My legs were so wobbly! It was crazy!
Otherwise, it was amazing. For Fellowship, I saw things I'd never noticed before (mostly tears). During this one, I just soaked up the experience of getting to see the long version of the last film in the trilogy. And I made it through only three tissues. Not too bad. There was a guy somewhere behind me who was crying/sniffling as well at the same parts, which was sweet. *sigh* One fan passed out drinking game sheets before the movie. Last time I got Aragorn. This time I got Gandalf. And I actually did a very good job of remembering to drink every time he says the word "hope" (OMG they say that word about 50 times in the movie; Gandalf only says it about 5 or 6 times though), every time a hobbit amuses him, every time he smokes, and every time we see the eye. After about halfway through, he stops doing drink-worthy things and I mostly just watched the movie ;-)
Those movies are so amazing. And I have such high hopes for the Hobbit. *crosses fingers*
Am so glad I went, even though I didn't get to see that beautiful kiss on the big screen.
