Apart from a miserable headache at the moment, I had a great day today.
It started out early. I accidentally hit my alarm and overslept 20 minutes, but no big loss. I had to turn my GPS off 4 times while driving because the charger is broken and will only charge when the GPS is off (not useful when I need it to navigate). I got to the zoo around 9:30 and found that there was a latino festival at the zoo today. So the place was filled with craft vendors and fun music. VERY awesome! Made the zoo even more fun.
I released 21 books, and 1 has already checked in with me. Yay! Tomorrow I'll process the photos and stick them in the journal entries. It was a rushed job doing the animal challenge at BookCrossing this year, but I'm really glad I didn't miss it completely. The zoo was its normal self. Saw lots of great animals. I didn't hit every key area--didn't even go on the Asia trail or to see the elephants. But I got everything accomplished that I wanted to accomplish:
1. Release all 21 books
2. Find a store selling the pillow pals and donate $20 to help "save" the Kids Farm to get one
3. Purchase a book of postcards to be used on PostCrossing or swap-bot
4. Purchase a kids lunch and get an animal lunch bag for my help_japan friend
I came home and wanted to do laundry, but my sister was already using the washer/dryer. DOH!
So I headed to the pet store to buy things for my partner in my very first swap-bot swap! I had so much fun searching for things to buy her cats, chinchillas, and bearded dragon.
Then I headed out to a Fall for the Book event called "Young Adult Authors Panel" with five different YA authors. I left super early because I was worried I might not be able to find the little indie book store in time. Turns out it and the complicated parking directions were no sweat. Despite the fact that I didn't know ANY of their books, I came out of it completely inspired, excited to write, and about $70 lighter (but with 3 autographed books and 1 Christmas present to show for it). I was sitting, waiting for the event to start, and someone came in and sat down in front of me. I was surprised to see Grace, who moved to New York a few weeks ago to live with her tourmates! I had no idea she was in town, let alone going to be at that event! WOW! Was nice to share it with a friend (even if she was there in part to take photos in an official capacity, she also writes YA fiction and she's the one who pressured me into reading Feed and the Uglies series).
I tried to get to another pet store on my way home. My GPS died on me twice, causing me to pull over and wait for it to recharge enough to get me through the next few crucial turns. And I got to the store just as it was locking up. Doh!
I went to Giant for food and to try to get a paper bag--they don't have paper bags any more there. YIKES! I went to CVS to see if they sell pet beds and coming out was my friend Kacy (who lives about 30 minutes away). Apparently it was my day for running into people unexpectedly. Because, as I was driving home, I noticed a familiar car behind me. My mother had just gone to the same Giant food store.
I came home and watched some Stargate Atlantis while eating and relaxing. I'm nearly caught up with my help_japan journal for July, August, & September. I have a handful or two of dates still to do something with. I'm awful for not keeping up with it in real time. No idea what I did on 7/7/11. Arg. So I'll have to do something like write drabbles to have something to put on those days. I've decided that after this year is over, I want to try keeping up with this daily journal thing. It's lots of fun making notes and pasting in goodies for every day of my life. But for now, I hope that my help_japan friend is enjoying a year in my life! :-)
