OMG Writers' Roundtable!
Nov. 16th, 2011 09:27 pmI had the BEST experience at Writers' Roundtable tonight. Okay, so I workshopped a little piece at the end I hadn't intended to read, but I did. And it wasn't fantastic, but I got some good comments. But that's not what was so awesome.
We had a new member today. And when asked what she writes, she said: fanfic. And I raised both arms into the air in triumph. She then went on to say she writes sci-fi/fantasy fanfic--mostly Star Trek and Star Wars. Anywhere from gen to... the other end.
And I came right out and said I'm a slash fangirl. And her face lit up in recognition.
Later, we were talking about YA genre and she used Jude Watson's Jedi Apprentice series as an example of YA done in third person. And I wanted to jump over the table and hug her for that. LOL
After the meeting, I asked what her ships were. She started out in Kirk/Spock (very classic and respectable. I approve) and then after TPM came out she jumped on the Qui/Obi bandwagon. And I immediately asked if she was on Master_Apprentice. And she is! In fact, I recognized her username immediately. SQUEE! A fellow M-A-er! At MY writers' roundtable IRL! Totally make my day/week/month.
She's not sure my group is appropriate for her... and I agree (I've never workshopped any fanfic there, especially not slashy AU fanfic, though I have read some moderately racy Strokes pieces). But I offered to beta for her *G* Man. Wouldn't it be great to have a slash fanfic writer's group spinoff group? There should be a meetup for that.
