I had one of the BEST weekends ever!

Friday was the Harry & the Potters Yule Ball in Washington, DC. I had to leave work 2.5 hours early to get there on time. And I kept BUYING things at the merch table (two t-shirts, when I was allowed no more than ZERO shirts). And the Dead Cat Orchestra was... weird. But I loved JFF's set (he played "I Was Petrified" which is the best in-concert song ever). Diagon Alley is one of my favorite bands and they kicked some serious ass; they played my favorites as well. And kicked ass. I danced soooo much. Like crazy "dance like no one's watching" dancing, which I NEVER EVER NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER do! That's how much I love seeing Diagon Alley live! And Harry & the Potters had a good set; not a great set (their time at the library back in July was better IMHO). But the highlight was definitely seeing the Potter Puppet Palls performed LIVE. I even took home a few pieces of pipe bomb afterward. Seriously. It was AMAZING seeing them live! H&tP have never had a Yule Ball in DC before, but I hope they do it again next year (so I don't have to drive to Pennsylvania or Boston).

Saturday I volunteered for an hour at the library (which I CLEARLY put on the calendar, but which my volunteer supervisor for the day totally failed to read until I was done and out the door). Then I went to the annual BCinDC BookCrossing holiday party. We wrap books up and put the first lines on the covers, then choose books based on the first lines alone. It's a hoot. And it's also a great time to just talk and hang out with each other. We had it at Old Country Buffet, so it was a different feel from normal, but I think it worked well. And it was great seeing so many of my BookCrossing friends. After that, we headed over to the thirft store next door where there was a sale for books: 8 books for $1.00. YES PLEASE! I bought way too much stuff. Including the OC Season 2 on DVD and a Wizard of Oz Christmas ornament.

After that, I went to Old Town Alexandria with two friends and we went on a candlelit tour of four historic buildings I've been wanting to visit but never have. It was a great event with people giving tours in historical dress, live music played for us, and free hot cider- YUM! I wish we could have spent more than 8 minutes in the Apothecary (I've GOT to go back with the DADA group).

On Sunday I had a Harry Potter Alliance meetup. We pulled crackers with cheesy fun jokes and charms in them. And we made blankets for the Linus Project. It was so much fun! And after that, I went to a concert with my family. It was the slightly shortened version of Handel's Messiah, with orchestra, chorus, soloists, and quite a few sing-along moments that I couldn't sing along to (because I don't know the music very well and because I can't sing). But it was an exceptionally beautiful concert and it felt nice to be standing in a room, singing with a bunch of strangers. It's one of those moments where people who might not have meant under other circumstances come together and share something beautiful... I love when concerts do that to people. I guess a lot of people get that at Church, but I don't attend church services. Anyway, it was a good day :-) And an excellent weekend!

PS- I'm watching A-List Dallas as I write this. OMG I love Chase. Levi really is such a douche. I want to give Chase a big hug.
