ZOMG Toby! And some facepalming.

tarotgalSo I'm watching the episode of Hollywood Treasure on SyFy from last week or the week before, where they're going to auction off District 12. They haven't gotten to that part yet, but they did just do something that made me yell excitedly at the television.
One of the woman working for the main auction guy on the show (can you tell it's my first time watching? Names? What are those? LOL) said she had just talked to someone who had the first Yoda puppet. The guy was skeptical and said the Yodas were all accounted for and if it existed, would be with Oz or Lucas, etc. "What's his name?" "I don't know. Toby something."
So the second Toby walks on screen, I freaked out. I've MET this man! And the second his name "Toby Froud" appeared on the screen I screamed "OMG IT'S THE REAL YODA!" Because I've met him and his mom at FaerieCon and I KNOW she was the person who designed the first Yoda puppet. The auction guy was super skeptical, even with me yelling "ARE YOU CRAZY? THIS IS TOBY FUCKING FROUD!" at him through my TV screen. Well, of course after the commercial break, Toby whips out photos of his mum standing with Jim Henson and Frank Oz and Stuart Freeborn. And there was another with the Mark Hamill rehearsing with the puppet. And one of the puppet sitting on Stuart's desk as he sculpted Yoda's head. And all the while I'm like "Um, of course, because this is TOBY FROUD you idiot!" LOL He was IN LABYRINTH! He freakin SAT on David Bowie! Okay, granted he looks a little different today than he did then. And the guy's even younger than I am. Which makes me feel useless (of the two of us, one of us has sat on David Bowie and worked on the Lord of the Rings films and one of us has not. Guess which is which) But, still, it's TOBY FROUD. Of COURSE it's the real first Yoda puppet! DUH!
I can't believe it only went for $22,500. But it was super neat to see it on screen :-) And neat to see Toby on TV. God, he's cute. And that accent. Guh.
But this auction guy (Joe. His name apparently is Joe) seems pretty clueless. Not knowing that District 12 was a place and up for auction, even though that's kind of his business and he flew all the way to North Carolina to hunt for items? Not recognizing Bumblebee from Transformers? Yeah. I like the idea behind this show, but this guy is totally not impressing me. At all. How much of this is just put on to make it more dramatic and how much is just because the guy is a clueless idiot? His assistant said he knows everything there is to know about Star Wars, like a walking encyclopedia, and he didn't know Jim Henson helped create Yoda. REALLY?
