So Proud of Me!
Dec. 9th, 2012 10:21 amGift fics are not going well. I need to just sit down and WRITE but other things keep getting in the way, like working on my house and moving in, box by box. But I'll get there.
I started a new 101 Things in 1001 Days on Friday along with three RL friends. I'm really pleased with my list and can't wait to make good progress on it.
List 1: 50 Things Finished http://just-the-things.livejournal.com/722.html
List 2: 67 Things Finished http://just-the-things.livejournal.com/47833.html
List 3: http://just-the-things.livejournal.com/80944.html
But what I'm really proud of myself about is my weight loss (which, incidentally, is #39 on List 3). I stepped on the scale this summer/fall and I actually cried. I knew I was heavier but had no idea how bad it was and was mad I could have let myself get that bad. So I started what I'm calling the Whomping Willows diet, because it was inspired by Matt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCNrtltUpDQ&feature=plcp He looks SO GOOD now! It was also inspired by Sean Murray (McGee on NCIS) whose weight loss is due to cutting out sugars, alcohol (which I don't drink anyway), and eating organic. Anyway, yeah, it was more of a mindset change. Instead of just putting food in my body just to eat, I'm now choosing healthy things to eat and I'm only eating when I'm hungry or need to in order to keep my blood sugar from crashing. I love sugar. I mean, I could just eat sugar out of a container with a spoon all day. So I thought it would be super hard. But I also like fruit (nature's candy!) and I really echo what Matt has to say about food cravings. I haven't really gotten any real cravings since I started this in October. I didn't even have a single piece of Halloween candy. I've made it through 3 holiday parties eating well, as well. And yesterday & today I weighed in at -20 pounds! I've never, ever dieted to lose weight before, so doing this well in my first ever attempt is thrilling to me. It really is just a different way of thinking about food. I'm about 95% vegan now (once in a while some cheese or some honey gets through). And I haven't had a microwave meal in months (used to be I'd eat one every night; I really can't cook). I'm eating fresh salads with veggies and nuts and making stir fries with veggies and strips of protein. I'm shopping at Whole Foods and buying organic every chance I get. I'm not sitting at my desk at work eating half a pack of Oreos a day, like I used to do. And I don't really miss it, either. Occasionally I'll try a small sweet thing at an office party, but I'm not eating an entire pack of candy corn in a three-day span like I used to. I am taking women's one-a-day vitamins and extra calcium pills as well, just to make sure I get enough of what my body needs. I am really, really proud of myself and I feel better, too. 20 pounds down and 25 more to go!

Date: 2012-12-09 04:45 pm (UTC)I would kill to be at your start weight before your weight loss attempt. I absolutely refuse to cook at home every day though. And fresh stuff goes bad so quickly and I hate going to the grocery store often. There's got to be an easier way.
