Yay! I just downloaded a nice free program which lets me convert from avi to mpg... which means a number of vids I have can be played with and cut and shared. Yay! Including Gambit sneezing... and Reed from Enterprise... and Kit from Highlander... *G* Happy happy!
Yeah, I know, but it's totally the little things in life, you know?
That darn bunny I posted last night keeps trying to get in and distract me... I'm TRYING to finish chapter 3 of my X-Men fic... and working on 'Giving' (my Lord of the Rings story which has more flashbacks than present day events, LOL)
But I really want to get my Percy/Oliver fic finished as well (though after Order... well... Percy's a little stupid, but I think he'll see his mistake) and work on that Ron fic I started months ago... *sigh* We shall see. Wish I had more time and control of these things! LOL! But I'm a slave to the muses...

Date: 2003-06-29 09:23 pm (UTC)I'm so excited to see that you're working on 'Giving'!! *bg* I was out shopping with my friend yesterday, and we spent forever in Borders (and later in Target and K-Mart, too, just looking at the books). And even though I desperately wanted to buy a book, and was prepared to buy any book, just so I'd have something to read for the bus trip home, there was not a signle book that caught my attention. *l* I was comparing them all to fanfics, and thinking how much I'd rather read a nice hurt/comfort fic instead... *lol*
I really liked your Hogwarts Express ficlet, too *g* I'd imagined the boy who offered the handkerchief as James (because he messed up his hair *l*), and was trying to decide who the main character was - between Sirius and Lupin, of course *g*
Anyway, just wanted to say hi, I'm back reading your journal again! =)

Date: 2003-06-29 09:47 pm (UTC)I really don't know how to feel about the book. I really enjoyed reading it, even if it's maybe not my favorite. There are a few points (like the DA) that really interest me and I want to comment on them, but I'm going to wait another few days before I post any well-labelled and well-cut spoilers! :-)
Bookstores... yeah, I've had that problem as well. I'm so used to Harry Potter fanfic that it seemed very weird to be reading an HP book again... felt like a very heavy fanfic to me at times LOL But I'm glad my upcoming stories will be of interest. 'Giving' keeps changing in styles... I keep having to poke it and tell it to behave itself... not sure it's working and I'm not sure I really want to rewrite 20 pages in the editing process. So we shall see. Silly fics! heehee
Oohhhh! Glad you liked the little ficlet... I was actually torn in making the boy an original character or making him Lupin. But I think if I do run with it, it's going to be pretty much all original characters. The idea bouncing around in my head right now is that he's in Ravenclaw, a bit of an outcast, and a 6th year. The mental scene I just wrote has him going up to the school with Luna in her second year... which would make it Harry's third year... which of course mean's Lupin's teaching... so I might have to throw him into the story too. Oh darn. Of course, that's assuming I can get to writing it one of these days... LOL
ANYWAY, point is, glad you liked :-) I enjoy writing ambiguous things.

Date: 2003-06-29 09:58 pm (UTC)*l* Fanfic has played a big part in ruining my desire to read, and Uni has played the other part. I haven't read a real novel in so long, and I'm a little worried about how little it worries me! *l*
I have to say, too, how impressed I am with your mental energy in relation to writing. You manage to write SO many fics, and keep up with SO many plotbunnies, and they're all GOOD! I have lots of plotbunnies, but either they never get finished, or they never get written. I have a notebook full of ideas (across different genres) but I'm not sure what will happen to any of it. Can I ask (ignore this if you don't want to reply) whether you're at Uni/college or work or something? I think I remember you saying you were doing a Masters in writing? Or maybe I'm totally off-track. But I really admire your writing ability!

Date: 2003-06-29 10:19 pm (UTC)Plot bunnies- oh my gosh, girl, you have NO idea how many plot bunnies I get- both sneeze-related and non. As this is a mostly sneezing-related journal, I don't mention most of the non-sneezing ones. Honestly, I have over 60 unfinished works sitting in my computer right now, including 3 novels I was serious about publishing one day that are not even CLOSE to being finished. And that's not counting another maybe 20 or 30 that never made it out of my notebook and onto the computer. Really, I've go so many bunnies I just label them story1, story2, story3... etc. I'm up to something like story125 right now... of course, many of those are finished. Most I don't even finish in order to give them titles. It's really a very sad story in my "stories" folder at the moment LOL
But I DO try and keep up with some of the more interesting plot bunnies... I really do... wish I had the time/energy to do more :-)
So basically, my point is, I've got a lot of unfinished works and you never see my bad plot bunnies. LOL
As for my status. I graduated with an undergrad in Computer Science (minors in Math & Creative Writing) in 2002. In August I'm planning on defending my Computer Science masters thesis... I get to do usability testing in a few weeks- whooo boy. Anyway, yeah. No plans yet after graduation. I'm sort of seriously toying with the idea of becoming a teacher for something like writing or computer science... or doing educational software... but we'll see. Economy suckith much right now and all. I like it at school right now... not a lot of pressure. And free time to write every so often :-)

Date: 2003-06-29 10:42 pm (UTC)Still awed at your prolificness (I think there's a proper way of saying that adjective - I just can't think of it). Wow. Even discounting all you bad stories and plotbunnies - you've written enough good stuff in the couple of years I've been reading your work to more than make up for it. One day I'll be good, like you, and start doing something with plotbunnies, and actually finishing stories off!
I agree - being at school is good. People try and cheer me up when they say "It's only 4 years - that will pass so quickly!" but I want the opposite to happen! I enjoy uni, I like my course, and I especially appreciate the freedom and lack of responsibility that I get during uni.

Date: 2003-06-29 09:56 pm (UTC)As for the vids I was mentioning specifically in this post, they will eventually show up in my 'Videos' section on Tarotgal's Realm. http://personal.buildpage.com/TGsRealm/index.html Only a few can be online at a time, due to space.
