For the month of April, I’m breaking out of my usual “format” and showcasing one of my favorite fandoms a day, so I will have shiny things to make me smile every day of my birthday month. When I sat down to write the list of my top 30 fandoms, I found the task terribly hard. How do I choose just 30? My apologies to all my beloved fandoms left off the list. I’m using random.org to determine what fandom gets what day.

The Fantastic Four

FantasticFour

Favorite Moment: (in the movie) Ben choosing to be The Thing so he can save his teammates.

How I Got Into It: Again, I’m a Marvel girl. So I took a chance on the movie and really liked it. I’d liked Michael Chiklis since The Commish and of course I loved Ioan Gruffudd.

Fangirl Intensity (scale of 1 to 10 with 10=full-out obsessed): 6

How I Fangirl: After the movies, I devoured the television shows (even own one of them on DVD) and regularly read every comic that came out for years (now I mostly catch up with the TPB volume collections). I’ve written some fanfiction set in various different ‘verses (the Marvel universes are all blurred and messed up in my head from all the different sources).

Why I’m Glad I Fangirl It: I love their team. It’s just the four of them in this weird situation, making it work as best they can together. I’m such a fan of Reed/Sue and Ben/Alicia. I am always thrilled when Reed shows up in the Avengers mansion to geek out with Tony and/or Bruce and/or Hank or when Johnny shows up on Peter Parker’s door. They’re such a constant for me in Marvel New York. The only two things I don’t like are 1-how people were surprised a guy named Dr. Doom turned out bad and 2-reusing actors within the Marvel cinema universe so they easily have the Fantastic Four make future appearances.

I'm not as much of an FF fangirl, though I did go through Mark Waid's run in the comics years back and enjoyed the movies just fine (though I think we know the primary reason for that *grin*). That said, I am a little miffed that they're rebooting the series and skewing them so young this time around, though the rumor that they may cast a female Dr. Doom is intriguing.

As for the recast, yeah, that bugged me too, but if I've got the details right, it's not like the FF could show up in the Avengers/Iron Man/Captain America set of movies anyway. Spiderman and the FF are owned by a different movie company, so technically one set doesn't own the rights to the other set.

It does make me hope that they recast Ioan in another Marvel movie, though...
