Summer showers
Jul. 6th, 2003 04:49 pmThere is nothing quite as lovely in the summer as a nice, sudden thunderstorm. My first summer in this town, it rained almost every single day between 4:30 and 5:15 like clockwork. My class got out at 4:15 and sometimes I'd make it back to my dorm ok, while other times we'd all just stand around after class inside and watch the rain together until it let up after 5. Huge downpours, with wind and thunder and lightning. And afterwards everything is fresh and cool damp, instead of this icky sunny, moist heat and humidity all day.
I just got a weather bug warning about a thunderstorm here, and not 30 seconds after reading it, there was a huge thunderclap *G* Gotta love it. Bring on the rain!

Thunderstorms
Date: 2003-07-06 06:09 pm (UTC)They managed to shoot off the fireworks show, but they had to start a half-hour early to catch a storm-free window, and 10 minutes into the show, it started to pour again, and so they shot off all the remaining fireworks in about a minute and a half timespan. Best finale I've ever seen, even if I did have to watch it from inside my car so I wouldn't get drenched!

Date: 2003-07-06 06:14 pm (UTC)Sorry about your 4th... that doesn't sound like much fun, no :-( It rained a good part of the night here, but stopped just in time for fireworks, and stayed away the rest of the night. But I've spent similar July 4ths-one without a car(we took a bus to a stadium) so we were completely drenched(couldn't stand near the metal bleachers or the few tall trees) Not at ALL fun to work yourself up to see good fireworks and be rained out :-( I'm sorry!

Date: 2003-07-06 06:40 pm (UTC)I could have gone home for a day and a half to spend the 4th with the rest of my family, but I was worried about traveling the 2 hours with Eowyn, and how she would react to Emmy, our calico at home. And even if I had gone home, she still would have been left alone in a strange house while the fireworks were going off and I was out at the hill by the clubhouse watching them. Plus, I wouldn't have been able to partake in the alcoholic beverages since I had to have Eowyn home for her vet appointment on the morning of the 5th.
It's rained a couple times today too, and it just started storming again a few minutes ago. I can enjoy it now though...no fireworks to interrupt, and I LOVE watching the lightning at night!
