Top Ten Tuesday: Original NES Songs

On Sunday, I hooked up my childhood Nintendo (yes, my original one from 1988/1989; it still works perfectly, as do all the games). I popped in Dr. Mario at once and started playing. It really took me back. Last year, I found a nice website dedicated to video game music. Without further ado… Oh, but keep in mind I pretty much had to buy my own video games and I didn’t have a lot of money as a kid; so there isn’t very much variety

You are so lucky you had one of these! I wanted one so bad but my parents thought they were too expensive and a waste of money and time. I also didn't get an allowance so I couldn't buy one myself. My cousin who is 10 years older than me had an Atari and I envied her so much.

I felt pretty lucky. I only got $0.25 a week as an allowance. But my dad was away off and on for business trips and my mom spent a whole summer repainting the house on her own. I was tasked with watching/babysitting my little sister while Mom painted. And I was paid for that. It took me a whole summer of saving up, but I was able to buy it on my own. I remember being so excited because I had, like, $102 dollars and it was only $98 or something and I thought I had enough to buy one other little thing at Toys R Us, but right there in the store I learned about sales tax :-(

I bought almost all the games (I think Marble Madness was a Christmas present). But my parents had a video rental card and I was allowed to rent one game every so often. I didn't actually buy Zelda until I was in college and saw it at a GameStop in the used games section.
