Sleeepy time
Jul. 8th, 2003 11:52 amI got 2 hours of sleep last night- 7:15am-9:30am- ok, so technically that's more than 2, but for the last half an hour I kept waking up, scared I had misprogrammed my alarm.
Morning meeting(10am) went well... wish I had worked my ass off more, but am feeling better about my thesis work- so YAY! That means I can justify splurging on DVDs/VHSs tonight at Walmart (er, alotting myself $20 only, though) And at least I'm doing better than I was yesterday, emotionally. And better than boyfriend- he's been breaking down a lot lately- he's taking off for home again to talk with his parents about everything. It's hard. We're SO alike in not really wanting to do work, in procrastinating, etc. Nice to have some outside motivational forces, I guess. He needs 'em (he's been here, like, 4 years now and is still not done with his Masters, poor lad. Of course we're both in Computer Science and I can't begin to understand half of what his thesis project is about...)
Am expecting a CD in the mail aaaaaaaany time now *anxiously glances out the window for mailman* It's the new Steve MacDonald CD- Legend. He is my all time favorite favorite favorite artist/singer. OK, so he has one sound and all his songs sound alike, but his songs MEAN something... and are beautiful... and make me cry... and make me wish I was in Scotland... and I really love him. He's fantastic. SOOOO excited to hear he had a new CD- I've got all of his on CD and listen to them over and over again. So excited!!! OK, so it's probably not coming for another few days, but this is day 2 in the 2-5 business days timeline... so I'm still hopeful *G*
One of the songs is about Culloden- I'm going to break down and cry when I hear it, I just know it.
OK... I go sleep now... pain meds I took at 6am are starting to wear off and eyes are sooooo tired. Sleep good... writing better.... but sleep is what I need.

Date: 2003-07-08 01:37 pm (UTC)I doubt very much whether most people know Steve MacDonald- not even all of his albumns are on amazon.com. But it's one of those cases where you come across an artist and fall in love- and popularity isn't exactly an issue.
Like Highlander- my favorite television show. It's got a big cult following but I would never say it was popular or very well known.
As for Weiss... well, that's Japanses anime and I haven't ever seen it on tv either- only on the episodes I download from the computer. And I only got interested in that after reading some sneezefic about it... and then some other fanfiction about it.
I tend to get hooked on a lot of random, not well known things. But I have a LOT of tastes and a lot of favorites :-)

Date: 2003-07-08 02:12 pm (UTC)On Amazon.com- try searching in music for for Steven McDonald- One of his best songs is 'All You Can Know' on his 'Sons of Somerled' album. But the clips for any of them will give you an idea of his sound. 'Live on My Warrior Son' makes me cry, as does 'Fallen Flowers' on his 'Stone of Destiny' album. And 'All My Days' on his 'Highland Farwell' album is my favorite love song ever(there's no clip of that, but the 'Highland Farwell' title song is wonderful, too).
Yeah... I do have a lot of more popular interests... but I have so many more I hardly bother mentioning because they're so obscure :-) Like Dar Williams. She's my favorite female singer- no one's ever heard of her. :-)

Date: 2003-07-09 04:14 am (UTC)As for the music- oh, don't get me started on Celtic/Scottish/Irish artists! Steven's music is a cross between traditional Scottish and newage. I can recommend a dozen other artists if you want something less new-agey to listen to/sample. The thing I like about Steve McDonald's music is that almost all the songs directly relate to something that happened in Scottish history. A battle or a legend or a clan, etc. Lots of history comes alive in his songs... and as I'm obsessed with Scottish history, it fits me quite well :-)
