Lost another friend

tarotgalWe had to put my Simon puppy to sleep today. Mom called me just after lunch and both my sister and I were able to leave work to go say goodbye to him at the animal hospital. Her husband wasn't able to be there, but the rest of us were with him when he went and we spent some time with him (but he was in pain, so we let him go pretty quickly to end his suffering).
He was such a good boy and such a character; he loved people and (true to his Scottish heritage) loved rainy and snowy weather (I called him snowface sometimes). He never quite got the hang of how fetch was supposed to work, but he loved chasing after balls, chipmunks, foxes, and anything else that moved. But I'll always remember how he'd love to just flop down happily in the cool grass and how he would suddenly drop down and roll onto his back for us to rub his belly. He will be missed.

I've put pets to sleep. It's hard but it's the best thing to do when they are in pain or suffering.

Date: 2015-10-07 06:15 am (UTC)I haven't had much luck this year between my last grandparent passing away in February then having one of our cats and our dog die in June. Then last week one of my grandmother's cats whom we adopted after she passed died. Yeah, not good.
And my neighbor's dog who I used to watch died a few months ago as well. My neighbor volunteers at the animal shelter and always has had at least three dogs around. She told me that when you lose one animal it's an opportunity to make another animals life as good as the one you lost. *hugs*
