Wow
I must have listened to HP book 1 at least 10 times, perhaps more like 12 now. But I'm SOBBING. I'm not even through the first chapter yet! It's just SO sad. I keep thinking about Neville's parents and the prophecy and now I know Lily and James so well. It's SO sad to hear the news that they're dead. I mean... now that I'm familiar with the order and all the interplay of the current order... only guessing what it must have been list back then before they died. And now... it just feels SO much more real now... I mean, I of course always knew they had died, but it feels a lot more real now after HP5.
And then they get to the bit about Young Sirius Black lending Hagrid his motorbike and I cried SO hard. I'm SO silly! LOL
But to think of all these people celebrating on the day that Harry lost his parents and the order lost James and Lily... and to know how that hurts him 15/16 years later... oh, it just KILLS me now! *sob*

Date: 2003-08-06 12:16 am (UTC)I have always felt that Snape's character was really intriguing, and really wanted to know (and still do) what he did to earn Dumbledore's solid trust. I was most interested in finding out what would happen with Snape than any other character in OotP. Well, there was plenty of Snape in there, but none of it did much to earn his character any respect from me. In fact, when I finished the book I was furious at Snape! I have been going back and forth with other people on another web site for literally weeks as they try to help me calm down over what he has done this year! I sometimes feel like you - a little silly for taking it all so seriously, but then again, that is the mark of a great writer - one that can make you laugh and cry and feel love and anger - all the real life stuff!
I play Harry Potter up with my kids and their friends for all it's worth, and yes, we may take him a more seriously than most, but I know my kids will always remember his story and the great lessons they've learned from it - and they'll remember going to the movies and the book debuts on the first day all their lives! I am proud to say I love the Harry Potter books!
