TTT Extended
Nov. 18th, 2003 06:02 amOh my goodness. It's like watching a completely different movie, it really is. More humor, more background, and makes MUCH more sense in little places. Feels much more complete. The songs, the jokes, the wet hobbits, the ADORABLE added Legolas/Aragorn slashy-hurt-comfort-line *SWOON!*, and the whole ending. Oohhh I loved. Especially Legolas/Gimli's final tally (especially being a Douglas Adams fan). I loved. They're totally a couple *G* Really fantastic job they did with the exended version. Felt a lot more like the book, with its mix of emotions and situations. Especially the end. Oohhh and Samwise is SO my hero! Talk about showing one's quality! Truly! *sigh* Lovely movie.
The menus, too, were sensational for it all- specifically scene selections (Took me 5 hours to watch the movie since I kept going back and rewatching parts over and over and over again!) I'm going to go do something for a few more hours until my morning meeting. And try not to explore everything in one night... as if I could with all the commentary tracks and all! LOL Oohhhh lovely movie!

They wanted to do that love-triangle thing because it makes for a more interesting visual tale of Aragorn's inner love struggle. And I think the parts with her help us understand the differences between elves and men... of course if that's what they were going for, Haldir and company wouldn't have suddenly appeared to be all noble and self-sacrificing, they'd be happy and alive on a ship instead.
But the humor, and lots of little scenes that explain backstories, and Aragorn slowly rising to power/responsibility and coming to terms with his own destiny... all really did make it a completely different movie. Especially all the humor. It's certainly worth watching! :-)

Date: 2003-11-20 07:14 am (UTC)The Legolas-to-Aragorn line was the hurt-comfort one I mentioned in my first post about my liking the version. Ohhhhh yes. Yum! Made me think of that one fic on your yahoo group set in that time period with Aragorn getting sick *G* Oohhh YUM! One of my most favorite lines in the movie now. I rewatched it MANY times! :-)
I'm So glad they did a conclusion for the Gimli & Legolas counting game. Though I personally think their numbers should have been higher given how long the battle went on. In the first ten minutes alone Legolas said he had 19... what, did he just stop killing for a while after that? LOL
I loved Gimli's opinions of the forest, though. Especially funny as he's insulting it all and the same wonderful actor voices Treebeard and has the most opposite opinions possible *G*
And you're right, it was an entirely different movie. Much lighter all around... with much more elaboration on Faramir and Aragorn's rise to power and the love triangle. And much more Gimli... and Merry & Pippin. Much more of *everybody* really! I'm glad you liked it as much as I! :-)
And no, I didn't have any trouble understanding TTT on my first viewing... but boyfriend did. He's just not as dedicated a fan is all and wasn't trying too hard. He was just completely lost during Fellowship.
