Fic Progress
Aug. 6th, 2005 04:23 amI've been bouncing back and forth between a number of Buffyverse fics and some Strokes stories. I got 90% of the way through a SW fic for the 'Quixotic' mood before I decided it just wasn't working for me and I started a Strokes story with Marty & Coyote for the mood instead. I'll probably still finish the SW fic and post it, just not for the challenge. Then last night I was inspired to write a short, completely different story in their 'verse with Olly, that I finished this morning. It's been a weird couple days for me writing-wise.
But tomorrow I intend to work on my R/S fics (assuming Angel Season 5 Spike will leave me alone) and I'll send e-mails to those of you who were sweet enough to offer to beta for me on this last one. I keep tweaking it every day and it's to the point where I'm ready to let it go now. LOL
EDIT: And now after noticing
pervy_werewolf's current challenge, I might just have to dig my nearly-finished collarfic out and really try to finish it once and for all!

Date: 2005-08-07 06:11 am (UTC)Actually, yes. With some adoring!Qui on the side. It was supposed to be quixotic so I kept trying to weigh it down with romantic stuff... and I decided it seemed far too strange to actually use for quixotic. If there was a 'playful' mood, it would fit perfectly. Or a 'strange' mood, even. I'll try to finish it up soon soon and post it :-)

Date: 2005-08-07 06:07 am (UTC)Do you know how to save a streaming .ram file as an mp3 file? I want to save a copy of the Guards! Guards! radio broadcast on BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7/listenagain/friday/ but I have no idea how these things work and the results I got after googling for help were confusing. Do you know if there's a program or a special method or maybe a really obious "click here to save" button that I'm missing?
Thank you so much in advance, and if you can't/don't have time to help, thanks for reading anyway :) :)

Date: 2005-08-07 06:16 am (UTC)If you own the pay-version of Real Player, I think there's a way to save those files. I'm not certain, because I don't own that. As such, there's no easy answer and it's something I've been annoyed at for years because there are SO many great streaming video and audio clips I'd love to keep but don't know how to.
My not-so-great-but-it-works solution is to open up SoundRecorder with a temp.wav file that I've created to be something huge like 10 minutes long. Then, as I'm playing the file in Real Player, I hit record in the SoundRecorder program. After that I can use GoldWave and convert it to mp3 if I want. The quality isn't 100% spectacular, but usually it's good enough for me. It's kind of a crappy solution to work around the annoying problem, but unfortunately it's all I've got.

Date: 2005-08-14 11:07 pm (UTC)Someone online ended up recording the files and sending me a copy. The quality's pretty close to what the original stream was, so I asked her how she did it. This is her reply:
I recorded them with a nifty little program called TotalRecorder. You need a crack for it though, as the shareware version inserts a little sound after every 1 minute of recording. Another program that's free and has no annoying catches to it is Audacity. I use that a lot as well. If you're playing something streaming, in Audacity you just have to choose "Stereo Mix" (I think) and hit the Record button and it'll record everything that's coming through your speakers.
I haven't tried it yet, but I hope it's helpful! :)
