More books
Nov. 6th, 2005 02:41 pmI went to the library and bought more books yesterday. ANd then today my mother was going so I tagged along and they had a "1 Bag for $5" sale. So I got even MORE books. I don't know where I'm going to PUT them all, but I'll figure something out!
So yesterday I bought:
And today I bought (remember, big bag sale):
So I bought 3 or 4 books and 1 book on tape as Christmas gifts.
And between yesterday and today for Bookcrossing only I got:
I seriously have NO place to put any of these. LOL And I got into a conversation with the two guys at the check out yesterday about football, and one of them was there again today *blushes* and he RECOGNIZED me and we talked about how sucky the games were yesterday. LOL It's sad when you're recognized for buying so much at a library sale. But there were people who bought $30 worth of books in one day so, whoa, I'm not that bad! I spent:
Day 1- $13
Day 2- $10
Day 3- $5
And got 45 books (6 of them being audio books). That's not bad at all! Squeee! Of course there are two books I probably should have bought today that now I kind of regret passing up. But I'm more than happy with the ones I got. *looks over large stacks* *sigh* Happy indeed. Where's that Remus bookstore owner fic I started a month ago...
So yesterday I bought:
- Insomnia- Stephen King (I've never read it but why not? My mother borrowed it from me last night to read, LOL)
- Salem's Lot- Stephen King (I taped the mini series but haven't watched it yet. I think I'll read the book first)
- The Shining- Stephen King (I've seen both movie versions but have never read the book)
- Angela's Ashes- Frank McCourt (Audio tapes! I bought this book for my Irish Literature class but have never read it as we didn't get to it in class, and it's read by the author so that rocks)
- Sphere- Michael Crichton (Audio tapes! This is my favorite Crichton book and it's read by Ed Asner! Awesome!)
- 9 Steps to Financial Freedom- Suze Orman (Audio tapes! I saw and couldn't resist. I really love her advice and have always wanted to buy one of her books)
- 2 hardcover gift books which I can't mention here because someone who's getting them reads this journal sometimes
And today I bought (remember, big bag sale):
- The Star Trek: TNG Companion (I own the ST Encyclopedia which was put out when DS9 was still in progress, so I already have all this info, but it's so big and is just this series so I couldn't resist)
- The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook (I love reading this book in bookstores, so it's about time I had a copy! I almost bought it yesterday but today it was still around so I snatched it up and put it in the bag)
- Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood- Rebecca Wells (I intend to read and then give as a gift to a fellow bookcrosser)
- The Valley of Horses- Jean M. Auel (Mom bought me Clan of the Cave Bear but I still haven't gotten around to reading it, but when I do, I'll have the whole series here)
- The Mammoth Hunters- Jean M. Auel (See note above)
- The Plains of Passage- Jean M. Auel (See note above)
- Irish Magic- lots of authors (I don't know. Silly romance/adventure book. Maybe it'll suck or maybe it'll rock. I can always Bookcross or give it back to the library if it's too painful to read, but it looks interesting)
- Letters from the Earth- Mark Twain (I've read most of this, but don't have my own copy. So yay!)
- Seashells of North America- a Golden book (My CA grandparents had this book and my relatives are sending it around in a box that goes from home to home every year, but I saw it and wanted a copy of my own. And it's in FABULOUS condition)
- Lives of the Artists- Kathleen Krull (Audio Book! I have NO idea what this is about, but my secret santa person in Bookcrossing is an Art & Lit major so I'm hoping she'll enjoy this)
- John Muir's Wild America- Tom Melham & Farrell Grehan (I admired this hardback yesterday but didn't get it. So today I decided to ass it to the bag. I love John Muir's writings and life story, and I've visited Muir Woods in CA. And this is a beautiful book about him and about nature. I couldn't resist)
- The 9 Steps to Financial Freedom- Suze Orman (Hardcover, so go along with the audio book, LOL)
- 2 books my mother wanted about Kitchen design and renovation
So I bought 3 or 4 books and 1 book on tape as Christmas gifts.
And between yesterday and today for Bookcrossing only I got:
- IT- Stephen King (I LOVE this book!)
- Dragonfly in Amber- Diana Gabaldon (My faaaavorite book in the series)
- Voyager- Diana Gabaldon (I'm thinking of releasing this when I go on my next trip! LOL)
- A Perfectly Irregular Christmas Tree- Abbia Zabar (This is a beautiful little hardback. I'm going to release it on Christmas or give it as a gift to a fellow Bookcrosser)
I seriously have NO place to put any of these. LOL And I got into a conversation with the two guys at the check out yesterday about football, and one of them was there again today *blushes* and he RECOGNIZED me and we talked about how sucky the games were yesterday. Man, do I ever wish I was around your area for those two! I've read the Diana Gabaldons, but I borrowed them off a friend. I'd so very much like copies of my own. ;-;
By the way, how's A Breath Of Snow And Ashes? I haven't had a chance to read it yet.
Man, this was a long comment! LOL Hooray for book sales!

Date: 2005-11-07 12:51 am (UTC)It's been SO long since I've read Fiery Cross that I'm going to re-read it first (when I read these books, everything stops and I go through them so fast that I really do need to read them more than once). But my mother finished A Breath of Snow and Ashes and liked it. Not the same sort of magic as the first few books in the series, but she liked it. All I know about it is: it pretty much covers EVERY social situation possible and that it's slow-going at times (no surprise) but has a lot of cute moments. I just finished reading a book today, so I'm going to start on The Fiery Cross ASAP.

Date: 2005-11-07 05:55 am (UTC)I'd love you forever! And of course, I'd be more than happy to send out random books for you, to see if you'd love them. And if you didn't, you could always Bookcross them. Just so your number of books to release into the wild doesn't go down any.
My email is down right now, but I'll make a filter consisting of you and you alone, and post my address in my journal. Would that work?
Thank you again and again and again!

Date: 2005-11-07 06:33 am (UTC)heehee! There's no need to send me anything- you're certainly welcome to if you really want to, but I think I'm set book-wise for a good, long while! LOL I'm just glad to be able to give these two such a good home.
As for the Bookcrossing thing... I'll still register these (if that's okay with you) and enclose their registration numbers in the package (just not tape them to the books). So you can go and make an entry saying you got them. People do it all the time on BC- it's called direct releasing. So there'd be no need to worry about my numbers/stats and it would, in fact, help my "caught" percentages. Plus, like I said, it's great to know the books are going to a good home (no need/obligation to pass them on either- you can just set them to "permanent collection"). You never know where they end up otherwise if no one makes a journal entry for them. Sad :-(

Absolutely. I was going to suggest posting a screened entry here, but when I got back from my shower there was your post right there. So I've got it (you can delete it if you want, just to be safe). I'm going to have to wait until I can deposit my paycheck (I've got $18.40 in the bank right now and a lunch & gas to buy tomorrow) but I'll try to have them in the mail to you by the end of the week.

Date: 2005-11-07 11:58 pm (UTC)Aww, I'll send you something, even just for the effort you're putting into doing this for me. And if you want me to send you some money, to make up for shipping costs, I'll do that too. I'm very eternally grateful! <3

Date: 2005-11-07 06:46 am (UTC)I know what you mean about starting a series that's already mostly finished. I started HP when the first four books were already out and when I finished them all a few days later it felt so sad to have to wait YEARS to get the next one. I feel the same way about WIPs online. I don't like reading them unless I know they're almost or already finished, or unless I really trust an author to finish.
That's very comforting to know about the Jean Auel books! My mother swears by Clan of the Cave Bear (I watched the movie with her and rather liked it).

Date: 2005-11-07 10:18 am (UTC)I really hope you enjoy them! I'd be very curious to hear your thoughts, so if you ever feel like discussing them, drop me an email. Oh, and FYI, it's currently a 5 book series, with a sixth in progress. The 5th is called 'The Shelters of Stone' and just came out in the last couple years, after a looooong gap with no new books.
