I'm in a much better mood than last post. But that's me. Happy or sad. Manic or depressed.
The good:
Today I found out I'm getting a slight raise. We get raises every year from the state for cost of living. And we go through employee evaluations every year as well (just submitted my self evaluation today). But our board has to decide who deserves raises every year... and though I assume most people get them, I don't know for sure because we don't discuss that. But the point is, the board says I get one. Yay! It's not much, just a couple percentages. But it's still happy-making, yes?
Speaking of work, today I helped get the recording set up for the upcoming board meeting. AND the conference schedule went online this morning! Whoohoo! Lots of work and pretty colors.
I gathered my courage and... registered for the Faerie World Convention! Due to the lateness of the date, I didn't get the hotel rooms I wanted... and I don't know how far away my room is from the convention center... but it's "close enough" and it's not too bad. (Plus, complimentary internet services... though I probably won't bring my laptop because I don't want it to get stolen). Anyway, I'm officially going! Which is EXCITING!!!
I made an appointment to take my car in on Oct 7 to have the alarm system fixed. Finally. Hopefully it's not *too* expensive but... I *am* getting a raise so... :-)
I went to see Rita Mae Brown speak at the book festival tonight. What a hoot! In the first minute, she insulted the current administration and republicans in general. Then she threw an insult towards the democrats. And then she proceeded to insult the entire human species for the duration of the talk. Usually speakers don't insult their audiences... so that was strange. But she had some amazing points (about language, animals, human nature, and writing), a sense of humor, and a boldness you gotta admire. It was enjoyable and inspiring. I took notes :-) I also released one of her books there. I hope someone finds it and enjoys it. It came from Arizona.
I made it home tonight in time to be the only (and, thus, lowest) bidder on a lot of 7 Young Indiana Jones novels on eBay. Yayness! I was outbid on something else, but that's fine by me.
I'm CLOSE to finishing that Fantastic Four story. I really want to finish it by the end of the week. I'd say tonight, but that's not entirely realistic.
I just exceeded last year's fundraising amount for the AIDS Walk! Which honestly brings tears to my eyes. Thank you! *hugs*
Tomorrow's Thursday... which means: Comic book run during lunchtime AND getting to leave work an hour early in order to go see Chris Baty of NaNoWriMo fame speak!! THAT should be fun! I'll probably poke around the festival booths/tables afterwards.
The bad:
Hmmm. Okay, I have a headache, but that's it :-)
EDIT:
OMG!!! How could I have forgotten the best part???
I received a marketing packet in the mail from the Capitals on Monday, offering 2 complimentary tickets to a preseason game. I e-mailed the guy last night about possibly getting/buying a third and today I received an e-mail- I've got 3 free tickets for the preseason game- Capitals against the Senators Sunday! Whoohoo!! I really, really want to buy a jersey this year. We've got new uniforms and I don't like the red all that much... but I'm definitely going to buy a jersey.

Date: 2007-09-27 04:42 am (UTC)Congrats on the raise and the eBay win, and the free hockey tickets! And that lecture sounds like a blast! I love it when intelligent discussion is mixed with some good, equal opportunity insults. *G*
And good for you for going to that Faerie Convention. I took a look at the website, and the artwork is absolutely gorgeous! Jen and Kira from The Dark Crystal are wonderful character designs, and I love Jessica Galbreth's work too. Oh, and I noticed Tolkien artist Ted Nasmath in the bunch as well...he has a great picture of Legolas and Gimli really tiny in a huge awe-inspiring version of the Glittering Caves that I've always liked. Had I not had a friend flying in from Albuquerque to visit me that weekend, I might have considered registering myself. So I really hope you have a great time there!
Oh, and thanks for mentioning the AIDS walk again! I mean to donate, but wanted to wait until the end of this month, so thanks for the reminder, and congrats on passing your goal.

Date: 2007-09-27 05:31 pm (UTC)The author talk sounds great too. A couple of years ago I went to see Jodi Picoult speak which was really interesting. Other than the fact that she gave a way a subplot surprise in the book I was in the middle of reading at the time.
I'm looking forward to the Fantastic Four fic. I'm stuck again here.
Did you watch Boston Legal this week? What do you think about the cast changes?
