Exciting!

So I had a great write-in tonight for NaNoWriMo. [livejournal.com profile] melydia and I got very little writing done but I had a BLAST and really needed that. At the end of the night, though, I got to the end of a Sin story (much of the middle is unwritten still) and suddenly something happened that totally blew my mind. It was completely unexpected and wonderful and I'm SO excited about it... but I can't say what it is because this story takes place in the distant future and there are tongs of stories in-between you'd have to read for it to make sense. Ugh. I'm so behind. One step forward and two steps back.

Now I'm watching more Hornblower. "I have shared a berth with Lieutenant Bush, Major CĂ´tard, and I considered it an honor." HOW had I forgotten that line existed? Squee!!!!
I know, I know. None of you who requested Hornblower fics wanted slash, and I'm writing gen, I promise (I'm being good). But, OMG, that line makes me all kinds of happy.

I know how you feel about unexpected awesomeness. Have you ever read "Hornblower and the Atropos?" It's my favorite book in the series, because it's just fun and awesome (there's TREASURE HUNTING! How can that possibly suck?)

But of course, it's also my favorite because there are a few scenes with Horatio that are VERY relevant to our fetishy interests. When I first read it, I'm pretty sure my eyes almost fell out of my head.

(And by the way, if that line inspired a slashy plot bunny to bite you, you can go write it before you go write my gen fic. I wouldn't mind; any Hornblower fic, especially sneezefic, is welcome.)

I think I've listened to that bit maybe 20 times.

Pray tell, would that be the Ioan Gruffudd audio version? If so, two questions.

a) Does he say the infamous line?

b) When Horatio's sick, does he talk in a sort of congested voice?

I ask because I really want to listen to Ioan's version, but I don't want to go into it unprepared.

(Also, were you disappointed that Horatio's cold seemed to vanish after like, one chapter? I always felt like there was so much more to explore there. But maybe that's just the fetish talking...)

Check amazon.com under "Ioan Gruffudd Books". Ioan did almost all the books. It's all on cassette, though, not CD, and it's abridged. (also, the American one is insanely expensive for some reason; I got my copy from the British Amazon).

This is how pathetic I am; When I got the tape, I had to have someone preview it for me. According to my informant, he tragically doesn't say the line, and she stopped before the bit where he's sick, so I don't know if it even comes up at all. So while it's worth getting for Ioan, it's missing the best part.

You have a good point about Horatio working through illness, but still, it's disappointing. I guess it's up to us to fill in the gaps *Grin*.

Also, all that and I STILL haven't gotten up the courage to listen to the tape. Am I lame or what?
